Shadow Arena, the battle royale game from the makers of MMORPG Black Desert, will be shutting down on August 10.

Pearl Abyss has announced the service termination dates. July 8 was the last time anyone could download Shadow Arena and purchase premium currency, and until August 10 when the servers close down, players can request refunds.

Shadow Arena was first revealed in November 2019. The game, which is based on the Black Desert universe and features a lot of carry-over elements and mechanics, released in Early Access in May 2020.

However, the game underwent various balance changes, even hero reworks and reboots.

A quick glance over on SteamDB shows a rather dismal concurrent player count. After December 2020, the lifetime concurrent player graph shows Shadow Arena never breaking over 1,000 players per day.

You can check out the final developer note entry for Shadow Arena as the development team reminisces on the game’s inception to its current state today.

We checked out Shadow Arena when it was in closed beta and found it promising in some ways and frustrating in others.

In other, more positive news, Pearl Abyss continues to operate Black Desert, and is now the sole publisher for all the versions worldwide.
