Pokemon GO Shiny Articuno Could Be Your Next Raid Capture

Shiny Articuno has a chance of appearing in Raids this week in Pokemon GO.

Pokemon GO is rolling back the clock and returning to its Kanto roots with this next series of Raid encounters. For the majority of July, trainers will be able to encounter and potentially capture the first Generation legendary bird trio: Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno.

Niantic Labs has programmed the birds in number order with Articuno being the first in line. Here’s how to maximize your chances of encountering a shiny one.

Articuno will be in five-star Raids from July 1 through to July 7. All rotations start and end at 10 a.m., local time, this month so trainers only have until 10 a.m. on July 7 to secure their shiny ice bird. Articuno will be appearing with a chance to be shiny — giving trainers the opportunity to add it to their collection before the week’s out.

Those who’ve taken the time to study our Shiny Guide for Pokemon GO will know that in Raids, the chance of a shiny Pokemon increases dramatically. What is normally a 1:512 chance in the wild jumps to a 1:10 chance after a successful Raid, meaning trainers have a 10% chance their boss will spawn as shiny in the bonus capture mechanic.

This means the only way to really boost the chances of encountering a shiny Pokemon is to simply enter more Raids. Obviously, this doesn’t mean one out of every 10 raids will result in a shiny, but it does mean trainers are going in with a 1 out of 10 chance their spawn will be shiny. Considering the usual, rate, these odds are pretty good.

Best of luck, trainers!
