PXLPLAY Is a Blocky Arcade Game with Random Stages and Unlockable Characters

It’s not always easy to find a worthwhile game among the multitudes of new titles that flood the mobile app stores every week.

One of the ways to thin the herd is to see what the critics are saying, and so far PXLPLAY, from developer Pixel Play LLC, is shaping up to be a must-play.

Not only did PXLPLAY reach the finals of the reputable Big Indie Pitch competition at Pocket Gamer Connects Seattle in 2023, Pixel Play LLC the studio which created the game is a finalist in the Pocket Gamer Mobile Games Awards 2023, dominating in the Best Indie Developer category.

Let’s see why.

Like Crossy Road and Pac-Man 256 before it, PXLPLAY is a retro-style casual arcade game with a cute, block-based graphical style.

The gameplay sees you bouncing a cuboid character called PXL along a randomly generated platform littered with little blocks. Collecting these blocks gives you points, allowing you to climb the leaderboards.

As you play you’ll also unlock more than 80 characters, and collect over 40 different achievements.

Your main obstacle in PXLPLAY is corners. The pathway you’re moving along keeps taking hard turns, placing you in constant danger of barrelling over the edge and into oblivion.

Fortunately, you can change direction by tapping the screen. This simple command also lets you activate special panels that flatten PXL out, make him jump through the air, inflate him, or speed him up.

While stages in PXLPLAY come to an end, you’ll never play the same stage twice. This means you have to stay frosty, since it’s impossible to learn how to complete a level by rote.

This keeps the challenge high – but not too high. PXLPLAY is rated for EVERYONE on Google Play, as well as being part of the Families Program. Like every great arcade game, it spans all ages and skill levels.

To check PXLPLAY out, download it for free on Google Play or the App Store
