Raleigh Announced As Host Of Apex Legends Global Series

Electronic Arts have announced that the forthcoming Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) Championship for 2022 will be hosted at the PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina from July 7th to July 10th this year.

With Covid-19 having robbed fans of the opportunity to see the first two incarnations of this tournament live, this year will be the first opportunity to witness the 40 teams in action, from five different qualifying regions, all aiming to win the lion’s share of a $2 million prize pool.

The move is being seen as a major positive for both the increasingly popular esports title, as well as for the city of Raleigh and its inhabitants.

We are excited to work with Electronic Arts to stage their first Apex Legends Global Series Championship to a live audience,” Don Waddell, the president of the Carolina Hurricanes NHL team and the PNC Arena remarked.

We proudly present a variety if sports and entertainment events at PNC Arena, and we are looking forward to hosting our first-ever major esports competition.

The ALGS Championship will allow us the opportunity to further solidify Greater Raleigh and PNC Arena as a global esports and entertainment destination.

Tickets for the event are already on sale.

What Is The Apex Legends Global Series?

The ALGS is arguably the pinnacle of Apex Legends esports gaming, featuring 40 teams from all regions around the world.

The tournament features a Group Stage, then a bracket, followed by the Finals to decide the winner.

The Split 2 Playoffs, which took place in Stockholm earlier this year, and which were won by Reignite, set new records for viewership for any EA Sports esports event, including FIFA.

It is the culmination of a huge qualifying campaign that has seen hundreds of esports tournaments contested over the last couple of years to whittle down thousands of teams to just the 40 that will travel to North Carolina.

What If I Can’t Get To Raleigh?

If Raleigh, North Carolina is a little too far for you to get to, then the good news is that the ALGS Championship will also be streamed live for fans to follow online.

Fans that opt to tune in to the stream can also expect some top quality video production and a host of interactive options including Twitch drops, exclusive content for online customers and more.

And remember, there will also be plenty of great esports betting available on the tournament for you to enjoy too!

Important Milestone For Apex Legends Global Series Championship

Although the tournament has been contested in previous years, this will be the first year that the tournament will take place in front of a live audience of battle royale fans.

The Covid pandemic has played havoc with the tournament organisers’ hopes to get their product in front of a live audience and after a belated two-year wait to do so, the Raleigh event will be an important milestone for the tournament.

John Nelson, the senior director and commissioner for Apex Legends Esports at Electronic Arts commented:

The ALGS Championship is a true celebration of fandom, and we’re looking forward to delivering the first-ever live ALGS Championship experience for our community of players and the residents of Raleigh.

With support for the May split being excellent, with an average audience of 539,000 every minute of the tournament, hopes are high that the Raleigh event in July will surpass expectations.
