San Diego Padres Trade Cincinnati Reds for Brandon Drury

The San Diego Padres have traded the Cincinnati Reds for third baseman Brandon Drury according to Ken Rosenthal. Cincinnati will receive shortstop prospect, Victor Acosta, in return according to Robert Murray.

Drury, 29, signed a minor league contract with the Reds before the season. He has outdone expectations by batting .274 with 20 home runs and 59 RBIs this season. In his career, he has a .253 average with 71 home runs and 249 RBIs.

San Diego is going all in for a World Series, as they have acquired Josh Hader, Juan Soto, Josh Bell and now Drury. They currently sit second in the NL West behind the Los Angeles Dodgers. Drury will likely serve as a DH against left-handed pitching and provide some infield depth.

Cincinnati has decided to rebuild after trading Luis Castillo, Tyler Mahle, Tyler Naquin and even more notable players dating back to the offseason. The return is Acosta, who is 18 years old. He is batting .269 in the complex and rookie leagues over two seasons. Acosta was the no. 11 player in the Padres’ organization according to Baseball America.
