Shanghai Shenhua vs Hebei FC Match Analysis and Prediction

Unbeaten in their last eight matches on home soil, Shanghai Shenhua play host to Hebei FC at the Jinzhou Stadium in round nine of the Chinese Super League on Thursday.

Hebei FC will head into the contest looking to get one over the hosts, having failed to win any of the last five meetings between the sides since July 2019.

Shanghai Shenhua suffered their first league defeat of the season when they were beaten 4-1 by Wuhan Three Towns at the Puwan Stadium on Sunday.

Prior to that, Wu Jingui’s side were unbeaten in 11 successive league matches stretching back to last season, picking up seven wins and four draws since a 2-0 loss to Henan Songshan Longmen in December.

The Flower of Shanghai have now won five and drawn two of their eight matches to collect 17 points and sit fourth in the Super League standings, level on points with Henan.

Meanwhile, Hebei FC suffered their seventh loss of the new Super League season when they fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Shanghai Port on Monday.

Prior to that, they had put an end to their run of 15 successive games without a win when they defeated Wuhan Yangtze 2-1 on June 30 through a brace from Wei.

Kim Jong-boo’s side have picked up three points from a possible 24 to sit 17th in the league standings, only above bottom-placed Guangzhou City who have lost each of their eight matches this season.

While Hebei FC will be looking to return to winning ways and begin their bid to move away from the lower spots of the table, next up is an opposing side whom they have failed to defeat in five straight attempts, losing three and picking up two draws since a 2-1 victory in 2019.

Shanghai Shenhua news

Jianrong Zhu put up an impressive performance in the defeat to Wuhan Three Towns last time out and he will push for a starting role on Thursday.

He should team up with former Henan Songshan Longmen forward Chritian Bassogog, who boasts one goal and two assists to his name this season.

Hebei FC news

Hebei could be without the goalscoring threat of Wei after the forward was hooked off with an injury in the 76th minute against Shanghai Port on Monday.

Wei is likely to be replaced by 21-year-old forward Yang Yixuan, while we expect to see a midfield trio of Liao Wei, Daogang Yao and Huaze Gao.

Prediction and Odds

Shanghai Shenhua will fancy their chances of making a return to winning ways in this contest as they face a troubed Hebei FC side who have lost seven of their opening eight matches.

The hosts are unbeaten at home since last November and we predict that they will claim victory on Thursday.
