Shmup fans are in for a treat, as publisher Taito in conjunction with emulation specialists M2 have announced the Ray’z Arcade Chronology for the PS4 – well, at least in Japan. The package spans three different Ray shmups, but includes a couple of new remasters – including RayStorm NEO-HD and RayCrisis HD.
RayStorm NEO-HD is particularly noteworthy, as a port named RayStorm HD previously released on the PS3 in 2010. This new version will retain the content of the arcade original but will be presented using a 4:3 aspect ratio – unlike the 16:9 employed by the aforementioned remaster. All games will add modern conveniences, like save states.
The full lineup is as follows:
- RayForce (1994)
- RayStorm (1996)
- RayStorm NEO-HD (2023)
- RayCrisis (1998)
- RayCrisis HD (2023)
The package is due out in 2023, and there’s no word on a Western release right now. That said, we’ll be shocked if these don’t get picked up by a publisher and released worldwide.
