Social Deduction Game Dubium Drifts Onto Early Access Next Year

Dubium 1

Isn’t space great? No, it’s absolutely terrifying. And Dubium knows it.

I’m not just talking about the traitor who, in this social deduction game, will go to great lengths to sabotage your efforts. The levels featured in Among Us, which we strongly suspect has inspired this new title, are at least reasonably sturdy. Dubium‘s space station, on the other hand, is on the brink of falling apart, launching you into the cold void.

Just the prospect of setting foot on it makes us nervous – never mind being airlocked because you’re a bad ‘un, we’re not convinced the airlock won’t just fall off of its own accord. True, Dubium does have an appealing, cartoonish art-style, not unlike Team Fortress, but it doesn’t matter how adorable you look when you’re asphyxiating.

Developed by Mumu Studio and coming to PC, Dubium will support five players, with one of those being the traitor. Some of the ways you can go look downright horrifying, including having your face burnt off by some horrifying purple plasma. What really has us intrigued, though, is Mumu’s statement that “Anyone can stab others in the back for a chance at victory.”

In other words, you don’t have to wait for a meeting to vote someone out; you can murder them whenever you see fit, even if you’re horribly, horribly wrong. That alone is enough to make us want to get our sweaty, astronaut-throttling hands on Dubium. However, we’re going to have to wait a while until it sees the light of day.

Dubium is set to hit Steam Early Access next year, but there’s a Kickstarter campaign coming later this month which suggests it’s still early, early, days for the title. Still, we have our fingers crossed that it’ll be worth waiting for. In the meantime, you can check out the trailer below or wishlist Dubium on Steam.
