The in-form Sporting CP will be looking to complete the double over Besiktas when they welcome them to the Jose Alvalade Stadium in Lisbon for their Group C Champions League matchday four with kickoff at 23:00.
Both sides opened the Champions League campaign poorly losing the two opening matches. However, Sporting CP can now boast a win after hammering their Wednesday’s visitors 4-1 in their reverse fixture two weeks ago.
Sporting CP began their continental campaign with 5-1 thumping at the hands of Ajax at home with Sebastian Haller scoring four goals, then that was followed by the 1-0 defeat at Borussia Dortmund in their second fixture before escaping Turkey with a heavy victory in third match.
The Leoes are now occupying the third spot with three points on board in the standings, three points behind Dortmund in the second spot. Therefore, Ruben Amorim’s side will aim to achieve a similar result they did in Turkey as they look to increase their chances of progressing to the knockout stage.
The hosts should be confident going into the Wednesday’s clash as the club boasts a perfect run of form having won all their last six matches in a row across all competition. The run has seen them move to the second spot in their domestic league with just two points behind leaders Porto.
Meanwhile, Besiktas have made a very disappointing start to their continental campaign as they have now lost all their three opening matches, first losing out 2-1 to Dortmund at home, then came the 2-0 defeat at Ajax in their second match before the 4-1 humiliation at home against their Wednesday’s hosts in the third match.
Besiktas are currently stuck at the bottom of the Group C standings with zero points, three points behind Sporting. Their chances of progressing to the knockout stages are now very decimal and all depend on this fixture as another defeat or a draw will be their goodbye.
Besiktas head into the match in a poor form as they have been having it easy in their domestic campaign either, they now just won two of their last six matches across all competitions and are coming off a 1-0 defeat at Hatayspor last weekend in Turkey Super Lig. The defeat was their third loss in their last five Super Lig matches.
Thus, the visitors will need to give everything in this match as they look to bounce back and perhaps salvage their Champions League campaign.
