St Mirren vs Motherwell Match Analysis and Prediction

St Mirren and Motherwell will get their 2022/23 Scottish Premiership campaign underway when they lock horns at the St Mirren Park on Sunday evening.

St Mirren had an inconsistent campaign in the Scottish top tier last season, but they managed to finish two placed and nine points above the relegation zone in the bottom half.

The Saints will be looking to better their campaign this season and push for a top half finish and that will need them to have strong start to the league.

They are coming off a 3-1 home win against Eidnburgh City in their final Group E League Cup tie, which saw them bounce back from a 2-0 defeat to Airdrieonians. St Mirren missed out on the knockout stages of the competition, but will be looking to use their final result as confidence booster ahead of the Premiership opener.

Meanwhile Motherwell did well last season to finish fifth in the top half of the division, which saw them book a place in the Europa Conference League qualifiers, and will be looking to push on that and get closer to the top three spots this season.

The Steelmen’s life in the European football has however been cut short as they fell to a 3-0 on aggregate defeat to Sligo Rovers in the second round of the Conference League  qualifiers.

They lost in both legs suffering a 1-0 at home and 2-0 at away, which came last Thursday, and will need to make amends ahead of the league opener.
