Star Ocean: The Divine Force is the next instalment in the long-running series of JRPGs, and it launches on 27 October for both PS5 and PS4. Square Enix has released a couple of trailers detailing the motivations and backstories of the dual protagonist’s players will be able to choose between.
Laeticia Aucerius is the princess of the Kingdom of Aucerius located on the underdeveloped planet of Aster IV. Laeticia embarks on a secret mission in response to the threat of an encroaching neighbouring kingdom and will do whatever it takes to ensure her people’s safety.
Raymond is the hot-headed captain of the merchant vessel Ydas, of Lawrence Logistics, an interstellar transport company run by his family. When the Ydas crash-lands on Aster IV, Raymond must search for the members of his missing crew, and find a way off the backwater planet.
Together with a ragtag group of allies, both will need to work together in order to save everything they hold dear from a dire threat. Sounds like a proper JRPG, doesn’t it?
What’s cool is that depending on which character you choose, you will experience the story from a different perspective; Laeticia’s represents a more traditional fantasy tale, whereas Raymond’s plays like a sci-fi epic.
