- Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev meet for the 11th time, in the Madrid Open semifinals
- The match is scheduled for Saturday, May 7 at 3 pm ET
- We break it down the Tsitsipas vs Zverev Odds ahead of Saturday afternoon
The Mutua Madrid Open has run basically according to form, with three of the top four seeds making it to the semifinal stage set for Saturday, May 7.
The only exception is No. 7 Carlos Alcaraz, who defeated No. 3 seed Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals Friday and will play No. 1 Novak Djokovic.

Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev, who play the late-night semi, were right behind the big 3 of Djokovic, Alcaraz and Nadal in the pre-tournament odds list.
Zverev, who has the lowest odds of winning the tournament (+400) now, is the defending champion, with Alcaraz (+180) now the favorite.
Tsitsipas Ousts Rival Rublev
Tsitsipas had a 4-4 head-to-head against another contemporary rival, Andrey Rublev, as they squared off in the quarterfinals Friday.
He was the favorite; two of his three ATP Tour-level wins against Rublev came on clay, and he didn’t drop a set in either win.
But Tsitsipas ended up having a pretty tough time putting Rublev away, even though the 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 win took a shade under two hours – speedy, even on the speedier clay of Madrid.
With all the focus on the earlier matches featuring Djokovic – and mostly Nadal vs. Alcaraz – the later quarters flew under the radar a little.
But Tsitsipas, who won Monte Carlo a few weeks ago, is building something during this clay-court season.

Zverev Survives Service Yips to Beat FAA
Meanwhile, late Friday night, Zverev had a recurrence of his serving yips.
We’ve seen it before; the second serve gets so shaky it’s either barely over the net, or it’s a double fault. And then he tries to blast his way out of it hitting two first serves.
But as many opportunities as he gave opponent Félix Auger-Aliassime in the second set, the Canadian couldn’t put pedal to metal and take advantage.
The reigning champion prevails ✅

It was a big sigh of relief for Zverev, who has a lot of points to defend as the reigning Madrid champion and has had a terrible time on the clay so far.
He had one ace and nine double faults. But despite that, he still won 56 per cent of his second serves.
In other words, take out the free gifts, Zverev won 14-of-16 points with his shaky second serve.

2018 | Washington (SF) | Outdoor Hard | 6-2, 6-4 | Zverev |
On the other side of the net will be Tsitsipas, who continues to show his most effective surface is clay.
His only big problem is that there are still two legit French Open champions around. And another one in the making in Alcaraz.
Tsitsipas Will be Confident
After the match against Auger-Aliassime, Zverev went out to practice his serve, despite the late hour.
But you could tell by the shake of his head after the victory – and his history – that he can hit 100 perfect second serves on the practice court.

But that’s not match play, under pressure. That’s when he has the issues, which he seemed to have allayed somewhat over the last year.
Still, you always felt he was one crisis of confidence away from them returning. And he’ll feel that pressure on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Tsitsipas will be fully confident given his recent history on clay against Zverev, and his fine performances this week.
