Street Fighter League Pro Europe Details Revealed by Capcom

Capcom has released key details regarding its first-ever EU team-based championship tournament, the Street Fighter League Pro Europe 2022. From the 10th of October, twenty-four of Europe’s greatest Street Fighter players will battle it out across a seventeen-week-long competition. Every Monday at 19:00 (UK Time), six four-player teams will compete against one another, with the gameplay being broadcasted on Capcom’s Twitch and YouTube channels.

There’s a qualification spot for the Street Fighter World Championship 2022 for the winning team, and up for grabs is a €75,000 prize pool. Ultimately, this will bring the European region well and truly into the Street Fighter fold, eventually pitting one team against top-tier North American and Japanese squads at the next World Championship event.

While Street Fighter is far from being one of the most popular esports games in the industry, it does enjoy good viewership within the niche that it arguably dominates. It can be said that fighting games helped to pioneer the modern esports industry, with players going head-to-head in competitive bouts as far back as the mid-1970s. However, despite Street Fighter not making into the highest ranks when it comes to popularity, this is a relatively valuable esports tournament that’s on the cards.

In a statement, Stuart Turner, the COO of Capcom Europe, voiced his excitement at having the Street Fighter League Pro arrive in Europe:

I look forward to seeing the victorious European team competing against the best SFL US and SFL Japan teams in the next Street Fighter World Championship!’

At present, Street Fighter V – the platform of choice for this tournament – is one of the most popular fighting games in the world. At the EVO 2022 tournament, which played out between the 5th and 8th of August, more than 250,000 concurrent viewers were recorded tuning into the action. To put that into perspective, the Call of Duty League 2022 Championship pulled in a peak viewer count of around 275,000.

There’s definitely a growing market – or at least a stable enough one – for Street Fighter tournaments to prosper. When it comes to esports wagers, Street Fighter betting really is the only way fans of fighting games can potentially make a little money by betting on their desired niche.

Capcom will likely release more information in the run-up to the event, but we already know quite a lot about it and can begin forming expectations. There’s a dense concentration of talent already confirmed for the tournament, and the first EU-based Street Fighter competition is sure to be an exciting one.
