Street Fighter V Evo 2022 Results: Kawano Wins

“Kawano” wins his first Evo tournament win at Evo 2022 which may be the last Street Fighter V: Champion Edition tournament at Evo.

In a 1,324 total registrant tournament, Kawano is a player from Japan that came out on top. Facing off notable players such as Derek “iDom” Ruffin, Hajime “Tokido” Taniguchi, and Daigo “The Beast” Umehara.


Capcom Cup IX

Kawano was also able to secure his position in Capcom Cup IX. Capcom Cup is an official event by Capcom and is the culmination of the Capcom Pro Tour. The Pro Tour is how players globally can qualify for a chance at Capcom Cup.

Different formats include the Online Premiers, a tour with 19 online regional premiers, and the winners will qualify for Capcom Cup. Offline Premiers are held at offline FGC majors, the winners will earn a spot at Capcom Cup.

Evo 2022 was one of the qualifying tournaments, meaning Kawano will move on to compete in Capcom Cup against 47 other qualified players. Currently, there is no specific date and only 10 players qualify as of Aug. 19.

The Street Fighter V: Champion Edition Grand Finals were very exciting to watch. iDom, one of the most prominent and best players in the American regions was able to dominate his way through the losers bracket. Eliminating other top players including Nathan “Mister Crimson” Massol, Daigo “The Beast”, Tokdio, and Tsunehiro “Gachikun” Kanamori.

Kawano Vs iDom

When iDom and Kawano were finally able to meet in Grand Finals, iDom was able to sweep through Kawano and reset the bracket. Initially, after losing the entire set, Kawano was able to keep up with iDom and end up with the fifth match.

iDom in many of his matches was able to apply so much pressure using Laura. However, during the final match, Kawano was able to use V-Shifts effectively, and punish iDom. The match was very close, ending in a final round where both players were matching health. The match ends with Kawano and iDom both one combo away from victory but Kawano was able to get the Crush Counter to victory.
