SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Deadcraft’, ‘Snow Bros. Special’, ‘They Always Run’, Plus Today’s Other Releases and Sales

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for May 19th, 2022. It’s Thursday today, and that means we have several new releases to take a look at. Deadcraft, Snow Bros. Special, Guild of Dungeoneering, Trio the Punch, They Always Run, and many more are here, complete with the usual summaries. It’s a good batch today, and if that’s not enough for your wallet we have the usual lists of new and expiring sales to consider. Let’s get started!

New Releases

Deadcraft ($24.99)

Half-vampires are all the rage, so why not half-zombie? Wait… I don’t think zombies work like that. Oh well! You are a half-zombie who needs to battle the undead but also recruit the undead. Don’t worry, your undead are the good kind of undead. Probably. Basically you can collect the corpses of zombies you kill and plant them to grow your own zombie workers. This is certainly a twist on the familiar top-down survival game, I’ll give it that much. I’ll be reviewing this one soon.

Guild of Dungeoneering Ultimate Edition ($19.99)

Oh hey, this one. I’m sure long-time TouchArcade readers remember Guild of Dungeoneering. It’s a pretty neat game about heroes exploring dungeons, which sounds pretty plain. But you don’t control the hero. Your input is mainly in building the dungeon around the hero and letting them make their own decisions. This version of the game includes all of the DLC content from the mobile version, plus various improvements and balancing adjustments. Still quite fun, and I’ll have a review for you early next week.

Snow Bros. Special ($19.99)

Here’s a remake/follow-up to Toaplan’s cult-favorite single-screen action game. Snow Bros. Special redraws all of the visuals (ehn) but maintains the same gameplay that people loved in the original. Use your snow to turn enemies into snowballs, then roll ’em to earn points and clear the stage. You can play alone or pull in a friend for some local two-player co-op. I really wish the original game was included here to soften the blow of the price a bit, but it is what it is. Heck, compared to buying the original Snow Bros. second hand on almost any platform, this is a steal of a deal.

Arcade Archives Trio the Punch ($7.99)

Okay, so this game is bonkers. Completely bonkers. It might be the bonkersest bonkers that ever bonkered. It’s a side-scrolling action game similar to Kung Fu Master or Vigilante, but it has the weirdness volume turned up to the maximum. In a lot of ways, this is so Data East it hurts. I imagine Hamster may have had to edit a few things here to avoid some licensing issues, but there’s plenty of odd left to go around even if that happened. Strictly speaking, this is not a very good game. But as they say, if you can’t be good, at least be bad in an interesting way.

They Always Run ($19.99)

Ha, yeah. They so do, don’t they? Wait, what are we talking about? In this 2D action game you play as a three-armed space bounty hunter. You battle the bad guys to bring them in and get rich doing it. The gameplay here is a little weird and I’m not sure it’s as smooth as I’d prefer, especially during combat. Not bad by any means, however, and the atmosphere certainly helps to make up for it. Reviews of this game are decent on other platforms and the reception from players has been very, very good. As long as the port to the Switch doesn’t introduce any issues, this could be one to look at.

World of One ($9.99)

Hunh, another one of these Limbo-likes, eh? This is a puzzle-platformer set on little planetoids, and that seems to be the main distinguishing factor compared to the rest of the crowd. Enjoy the dark silhouette visuals, solve the odd puzzle, do some frustrating platforming, and so on. You have a means of attacking here, so you’ll also have to engage in some combat. There are four different endings you can reach based on your actions, which adds some replay value. A New Game+ mode has also been included to that end. I’m kind of tired of these kinds of games unless they’ve got a really strong new idea driving them, but you might be more open to World of One.

Goetia 2 ($9.99)

Goetia 2, or Goetiaer, or perhaps 2Goe 2Tia, follows very much in line with the well-liked first game. It’s an adventure game with no inventory, filled with puzzles you have to solve using the powers you unlock. There are five areas to explore with eighty rooms, taking you through a completely new story featuring characters familiar and not so familiar. If you enjoyed the first game, this is an easy pick-up.

The Future You’ve Been Dreaming Of ($17.99)

At last, flying cars! Cures for all diseases! A Scarlet Spider movie! Wait a minute, this game is making some lofty promises and I have a sneaking suspicion it is not, in fact, going to present a future where I can see Ben Reilly on the big screen. Aww, this is just one of those simulation games where you help raise a girl. There are twenty different outcomes depending on how you guide her, some better than others. I wasn’t dreaming of this at all. Sad face.

There Will Be No Turkey This Christmas ($2.99)

A simple thirty-stage stealth action game where you play as a turkey who is trying to avoid becoming Christmas dinner. Yes, it’s a Christmas game in May. Your lights are still up on your house, you can’t criticize. Stay out of the sight of the humans, and make use of your trusty barrel if all else fails. It’s very affordable and seems to do what it sets out to do reasonably well.

World Map: Crafted City Builder ($4.99)

Rebuild the world monuments piece by piece in this puzzle game. Sure, knowing where the pieces need to go isn’t terribly difficult. These are famous structures, after all. But knowing where they go and actually getting them there are two different matters. There’s a decent enough idea in here, but I’m not sure this game actually executes on it well.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

Not too much cooking yet in that inbox. Indeed, a lot of the usual suspects, or at least the semi-usual ones. There are some new low prices on the last few entries of the list, but overall you may want to see what tomorrow brings. Even the outbox isn’t really speaking to me that much. Perhaps you’ll feel differently when you do that thing we always do and check those lists!
