SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Don’t Starve Together’, ‘Pad of Time’, Plus Today’s Other New Releases and Sales

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for April 13th, 2022. It’s another light Wednesday, but just like last week I can promise that tomorrow will be making up for it. With a little extra mustard, even. But for today, it’s just a handful of new releases and the usual lists of new and expiring sales. The most notable of the bunch is Don’t Starve Together, which just sort of dropped out of the sky. The calm before the storm. Let’s grab our umbrellas and head out!

New Releases

Don’t Starve Together ($14.99)

SwitchArcade Highlight!

Here’s the multiplayer expansion for Don’t Starve, delivered in standalone form. Up to two players can play together via local multiplayer, or you can pop online and try to survive with up to four players. Explore, gather, craft, build, and do your best to keep alive by any means possible. Cooperation is the key, so it’s better if you can get along. If you want to be a lone wolf, you can also do that. You’d be acting in defiance of the game’s title, but I’m not going to tell you how to play.

Blast Brigade vs. the Evil Legion of Dr. Cread ($19.99)

A colorful and cartoony take on the Metroidvania genre, featuring four playable characters, and plenty of blasting. I mean, they named their brigade after it, so you know they’re believers in it. Each of the characters has his or her own set of abilities and skills, and you can add to those as you explore the island of Dr. Cread. Naturally, there are some big boss battles and lots of places to visit. I haven’t had a chance to play this one yet, so I can’t say for sure if it’s good or not. If nothing else, it looks really promising.

Pad of Time ($7.99)

This is a 2.5D platformer with a couple of gimmicks going for it. First of all, you’ve got a few different characters to play as, and each of them has slightly different parameters. Second, you can use the titular Pad of Time to visit each stage in the past, present, and future. Each time period will have different layouts, and you’ll need to take advantage of that to progress. The price is affordable, so you should probably keep your expectations at the appropriate level.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

A small list without too much of note on it apart from the usual suspects. Pick up HoPiKo if you haven’t already. It’s a cool game and those folks could use a little extra scratch right now. The outbox is comparatively huge but it’s almost completely made up of games that go on sale every few weeks. Probably not a bad idea to hold onto your cash until we see what the rest of the week has to offer.
