SwitchArcade Round-Up: Ezio Coming Soon to Switch, ‘Demoniaca: Everlasting Night’ Releases, Plus the Latest Sales

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for January 12th, 2022. In today’s article, we’ve got some news about a pair of unexpected returns to go through. There’s just one new release today, but it’s an interesting one. Finally, we have the latest sales and a list of expiring discounts for you to mull over. Let’s get to the mulling!

News

‘Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection’ Announced for February Release

It’s been rumored for a while, but Ubisoft has finally confirmed that Assassin’s Creed: the Ezio Collection will be released on Switch. It collects Assassin’s Creed II, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, and Assassin’s Creed Revelations with a few extras. The set will be available on February 17th both physically and on the eShop for $39.99. A heads-up: the physical version only has Assassin’s Creed II on the cart, so you’ll have to have some space free to download the rest of the content. Apparently 35 GB all-up. At any rate, the Ezio games remain favorites of many fans of Assassin’s Creed, so it will be good to have them available in portable form.

A New ‘Super Smash Bros.’ Event Makes a Startling Appearance

Okay, it’s not that shocking. But it is true that once Sora dropped back in October, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has more or less been recycling past events, something I expected to be the case from here on out. Well, it seems we may still see some new events from time to time. To celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Street Fighter series, a new five-day Spirit Board event will kick off this Friday. A new spirit, Evil Ryu, is up for grabs along with a bevy of returning Street Fighter spirits. Unconnected to this, the Metroid Dread spirits from the previous event have been added to the game’s regular rotation.

New Releases

Demoniaca: Everlasting Night ($14.99)

Here’s another Metroidvania-style game with a gothic feel, drawing clear inspiration from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. There aren’t really any special gimmicks to this one, but it’s a decent enough example of the genre. The controls and combat mechanics are a bit rough, and there are definitely some design decisions I’m not a huge fan of. If you’re willing to overlook some flaws, you might find something worth digging into here.

Yeah, these lists of new sales haven’t been very impressive this week. I’m sure there’s more than enough to keep you busy from last week’s bunch, though. As for today? Mostly the usual suspects. The outbox has a number of items worth thinking about, however. The latest Arcade Archives sale is wrapping up, with some pretty awesome NEOGEO games on offer. Disco Elysium‘s discount is coming to an end, and that is definitely a game worth playing. There are a lot of other cool games in there, so comb through it carefully to make sure you’ve got everything you want.
