Team Heretics Join the LEC

In a stunning announcement, Team Heretics has joined the LEC buying out the spot from Misfits Gaming. This comes on the heels of rumors circulating for the past 24 hours that Misfits were looking to sell their spot. The new team will be joining the LEC in 2023. Misfits’ final splits in both the LEC and LFL will be Summer 2022.

Team Heretics were started back in 2016 by YouTube star Jorge”Goorgo” Orejudo and have been in the League of Lwgends scene since back in 2017. While League was one of the first esports the team joined, they have teams in VALORANT, Fortnite, FIFA and have had teams in Call of Duty as well. This will be the first time that Team Heretics have joined the LEC or any other major region.

They are a major brand not just in Spain but all of Europe. Team Heretics Twitter account alone has over 1 million followers. This shows that it is not just a smaller org buying-in but truly one that should come with plenty of fans.

As for Misfits, the organization has been in the LEC since 2017 and many felt like they were a stable organization. While this sale does not indicate the contrary it certainly brings with it plenty of questions. Will more teams sell? Is the price tag of $30 million or more too much? Are teams getting out because of the rumored “esports bubble”?

All of this is currently uncertain. What is known is that Misfits will finish out this split and then Team Heretics will bring with it a massive new fanbase to the LEC.
