The Tencent game earned $240 million in September revenue according to a report by Sensor Tower. This represents an 87% growth from September 2019.

“We’ve spent more than a decade investing time and passion into learning what matters to Chinese gamers,” said Li Min, Game Director of Honor of Kings and General Manager of TiMi Studios. “Honor of Kings is not only a great competitive title but we’ve also seen it become a hub of social activity for people in China. To engage with such a large, daily audience is truly an honor and motivator to continue delivering the best entertainment experience for our audience every day.”

Honor of Kings has enjoyed little competition in the Chinese market. Riot Games’ League of Legends: Wild Rift could prove to be a tough competition for Honor of Kings.

Tencent Games has also announced two new games, expanding the Honor of Kings world from MOBA to unspecified genres. What started in 2015 as a single game has turned into a massive platform with constant game updates and new game modes. Honor of Kings is only available in China and has been able to tap into the massive Chinese market to stay on top of the charts.

The Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) is one of the most popular gaming genres. League of Legends and Dota 2 are two of the biggest titles on PC. The Asian market has a large mobile player base with China and India being two of the biggest mobile markets in the world. Tencent Studios optimized Honor of Kings to the mobile platform with shorter games, automated controls and a touch-friendly user interface. Frequent updates and focus on mobile-first has resulted in the game’s popularity and success in the region.
