The Best New Games for Android This Week – FFVII: The First Soldier, Moncage, Gaia Project and More

As 2021 limps towards its inevitable ending, another week has passed us by. And we all know what that means – time to look back at the games that have been launched over the last seven days and pick which five we think are worth your time.

We’ve got a big battle royale, two distinctly different puzzlers and a boardgame adapation to keep you entertained this week. If you like shooting, space and perspective, it’s been a good seven days for you, that’s for sure.

You can click on the names of the games below to download them from the Play Store, and unless otherwise noted they’re premium. If you think another title deserved a place on the list this week, do let us know in the comments, eh?

Square Enix’s take on the battle royale genre throws you into the training program for Shinra’s Soldier program. It adds some interesting twists – character classes, summons and more – and while it’s having its teething problems it’s still worth getting in on the ground floor. It’s free to play with IAP.

A massive board game adaptation that sees you travelling across the cosmos. It’s all about managing resources, terraforming new settlements and spreading throughout the galaxy in a peaceful manner. You’ll need a powerful Android device to play this one.

A smart, perspective-shifting puzzler that sees you connecting objects by moving around a cube. There’s a decent level of challenge here, and an interesting story that you’ll discover through hidden images. It’s short, but it’s pretty darn sweet.

A short and sharp action platformer with a wicked twist. As you fight, the game scene changes, and your weapon with it. It’s super addictive, and gets brilliantly frantic the longer you play. This one’s free with adverts.

A puzzling adventure that sees you rummaging through ancient ruins in search of treasure. There are shades of Square Enix’s Go games here, and plenty to discover as you work your way through traps and obstacles to attain your goals.
