Image & Form’s The Gunk will release for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC on 16th December, a new Xbox platform exclusive from the makers of the SteamWorld franchise. The game will be joining Xbox Game Pass on day one.
The announcement came with a new featurette video in which Fiona Nova, the voice of main character Rani, talks about the game’s world and characters, and what you’ll be doing on the alien planet that you’ve landed on.
The Gunk was first announced at the Xbox Series S showcase in July 2020, with the makers of SteamWorld embarking on an ambitious new IP. However, over the past year and a half we’ve only had one or two brief glimpses of the game.
Set on an alien planet, you adventure to uncover the mystery behind the titular gunk. The game has an intriguing and chunky art style to the technology you carry, letting you peel back the gunk and reveal the beauty of the natural world below. Given the studio’s heritage with the charming and inventive SteamWorld franchise, we can’t wait to see more of this next month.
