The Last of Us Part 1 Wraps Development And Goes Gold

Naughty Dog has confirmed that The Last of Us Part 1 has officially wrapped development and gone gold ahead of the September release date.

The controversial remake was finally announced at Summer Game Fest back in June, with a release date of September 2nd, 2022 for PlayStation 5. Naughty Dog also revealed that a PC version of The Last of Us Part 1 was in development, but no further details or release date have been shared at this time.

The Last of Us and Uncharted developers said they are “thrilled” to announce that the upcoming remake, The Last of Us Part 1, has officially gone gold ahead of its September release date.

This means that the development of the title is complete and ready to be distributed and sold both physically and digitally. However, fans will still be waiting a few more months, as The Last of Us Part 1 isn’t set to release until September 2nd.

Naughty Dog’s remake received mixed signals from gamers, with some fans believing another $70 remake just isn’t necessary. The debate even sparked a reply from one of the animators, Robert Morrison, who said that The Last of Us Part 1 isn’t just a cash grab. In his statement, Morrison said the remake is the “most meticulously built and crafted project that [they] have ever seen or been a part of in [their] entire career”.

The Last of Us Part 1 is reportedly built from the ground up and enhanced for the PlayStation 5, with a total overhaul of the original experience, faithfully reproduced but also incorporating modernized gameplay mechanics. Alongside a remake of the classic title, Naughty Dog also confirmed that a new Multiplayer element is also in the works.

According to a PlayStation Blog Post, the developers are creating “something much larger than a mode”, with more news on The Last of Us’ new Multiplayer element coming next year.
