The Last Of Us: Part 1’s Latest Trailer Showcases Gameplay Improvements

After numerous screenshots and videos were leaked over the past few days, Naughty Dog has retaliated by releasing a 10-minute gameplay video for The Last of Us: Part 1. The trailer aims to showcase how the classic title has been rebuilt for the PlayStation 5.

Neil Druckmann, Co-President of Naughty Dog, said that “The Last of Us Part 1 on PS5 will feature a host of gameplay and presentation enhancements that will bring the game closer to its original vision.” To showcase exactly what the team’s vision was, and to give fans a sneak peek of what’s to come, a 10-minute gameplay trailer has been released.

Alongside the release of the new trailer, a detailed blog post by PlayStation breaks down some of the new improvements. The upcoming remake by Naughty Dog will be able to render Native 4K at targeted 30 FPS or dynamic 4K at targeted 60 FPS, and features PS5 mainstays like DualSense wireless controller haptics, trigger effects, and 3D audio. PlayStation says that it is “clear” that this isn’t just a simple resolution and framerate bump, but rather a complete overhaul.

The blog post goes on to state that everything from the art direction to the character models has been completely rebuilt from the ground up in order to take advantage of the PlayStation 5’s graphical capability. Players will reportedly notice a host of visual benefits, including denser physics and details such as bullets now being able to rip apart concrete and environmental objects.

Naughty Dog also confirmed some brand new modes based on fan feedback. The upcoming remake will include a “permadeath” mode, a speedrun-focused mode, and a host of brand-new unlockable costumes for Joel and Ellie.

The Last of Us: Part 1 is set to release for the PlayStation 5 on September 2nd, 2022. A PC version of the remake is also in development, but a release date has not been confirmed by Naughty Dog.
