The PS Plus Free Games for April 2022 have leaked! What are they and when do they come out?

While we patiently wait for Project Spartacus to be revealed, the PS Plus free games for April 2022 have seemingly leaked. What are the latest leaks? When will the official announcement come? Let’s break it down.

When will PS Plus April 2022, games be announced and released?

Traditionally PlayStation Plus games have always been announced on the last Wednesday of ever month at 4.30 PM UK time with the games going live the following Tuesday morning. That means the reveal should be on 30th March, with the April games going live on Tuesday 5th April.

What will the PS Plus April 2022 games be?

Once again, Sony’s Wednesday announcement has been preceded by a leak, and once again it’s the regular source Billbil-kun on French deals website Dealabs. They have an excellent track record, having dropped the full set of game announcements on half a dozen occasions through the end of 2021 and start of 2022.

The rumours will please fans of multiplayer games, roguelikes and anyone needing to grab a game to keep their kids distracted for 5 minutes. All will be playable across both PS5 and PS4. They are:

  • Hood Outlaws Legends (PS5 | PS4)
  • Slay the Spire (PS4)
  • Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated (PS4)

(Slay the Spire and Spongebob Squarepants playable on PS5 via backward compatibility)

Hood Outlaws & Legends took the classic tale of Robin Hood and his Merry Men and weaves it into an intriguing online multiplayer game. It’s PvPvE as two teams of four fight each other and pesky guards in order to sneak into a fortified position and steal a big load of loot.

There’s fun to be had, but it’s not entirely successful. In our Hood Outlaws & Legends review, Gamoc said “Hood: Outlaws and Legends has some good ideas, but the execution is a little lacking. […] With more variety, whether in the form of different modes or with each map having its own objectives, this could have been a winner, but as it stands it’s got a lot of squandered potential.”

Perhaps you like a roguelike with a side of card? If so, then Slay the Spire will be right up your alley. In our Slay the Spire review, Jason said that it “takes the best parts of roguelites, dungeon crawlers, and card games, and mixes them together into an unholy, but absurdly enjoyable game. It’s the kind of game that gets under your skin and uses it like a tent, just camping out and reminding you that you aren’t playing it.” He also awarded it a fantastic 9/10!

And finally, there’s Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated, a remaster of the PS2-era platformer, based on the hugely popular cartoon series. It’s a solid remaster that makes big improvements to the game’s visuals, while keeping everything else intact. In our review, Tom said, “The updated visuals bring the game more inline with the original cartoon series, but some dated game design holds the port back from being truly exceptional.”

Can I still download the March 2021 PlayStation Plus Games?

Absolutely! The PlayStation Plus games for March includes the ninja action of Ghostrunner, a bit of kart racing with Team Sonic Racing, and popular survival game Ark Survival Evolved. There’s also the sweetener of getting the online co-op mode Ghost of Tsushima Legends.
