The Roller Drama will play out on PC, console and mobile in 2023

If you like to play your games on PC or mobile, there’s a chance you would have stumbled upon Football Drama, the debut commercial title from Open Lab Games. Soon though that same team will be moving to a wider audience, giving players on PC, mobile and now also console the chance to take in the spiritual sequel – Roller Drama.

In Roller Drama you will get to lead five kickass athletes to victory as the Italian team at Open Lab Games go about pushing a visual novel / sport management mashup out to the world.

Roller Drama will focus on a roller derby team, as you attempt to prove they are the best in town, all whilst a societal collapse goes on around you. The game is scheduled to launch in early 2023 on Switch, PC, iOS and Android, with PlayStation 4 & 5 alongside Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One versions dropping later.

The main focus is on leading a team of Roller Derby athletes to victory using strategy and real-time controls to smash the competition. Outside the ring you’ll have to manage five big personalities as they grapple with friendship, heartbreak, and the gradual collapse of late capitalist society. Your choices, and the outcome of each match, will affect the ultimate fate of the team.

The key games features of Roller Drama include:

  • Interactive narrative with meaningful choices and multiple endings
  • Vivid, explorable universe
  • Real-time roller derby matches
  • Coach a team of five athletes with wildly different personalities
  • Upgrade your team’s abilities over time
  • Hand drawn character art by award winning illustrator Vic Macioci
  • Play with controller or mouse + keyboard

“After our narrative-driven debut football drama, we wanted to take everything we’d learned and push the boat out even further,” said Pietro Polsinelli, lead designer at Open Lab Games. “From the hand drawn visuals to the bold genre mashup, Roller Drama is hella ambitious and weird. We aim to give players a sporting triumph they wouldn’t find anywhere else!”

Well keep you fully updated as to how this Roller Drama unfolds, but expect to see it drop onto PC via Steam, mobile and Switch in early 2023, followed by Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4 and PS5 a little after that.
