The Saints Row Reboot Has Been Delayed Until August

Bad news, Saints: Deep Silver and Volition have announced that the upcoming Saints Row has been delayed until August 2022.

The Saints Row reboot, simply titled Saints Row, was announced earlier this summer with a release date of 25th February. However, announced via Twitter this morning, the game will now released on 23rd August. Why? Quite simply, the team just need more time.

In a longer statement published on the official Saints Row website, Volition’s chief creative officer, Jim Boone, goes into some more detail:

“Our priority is to create the best Saints Row game yet and, if we released on the original date, it wouldn’t be up to the standards we’ve set ourselves, and that you’re expecting and deserve. The team just need more time to do our vision justice; we’re doing some fine tuning and there won’t be much change in the game outside of overall quality and polish.

In all honesty, we underestimated the impact COVID would have on our schedule, although everyone adapted very quickly to the working from home arrangement and continued to be incredibly productive.

However, due to the size and scope of our new Saints Row, it’s become apparent that to create the best game possible, we need to give our team longer to perfect their craft.”

Yes, Covid has a lot to answer for, including being the source of most video game delays of recent times. An additional wait of six months is disappointing for those of us who are looking forward to Saints Row, but we’re just glad the team at Volition is taking the time they need. Greatness cannot be rushed.

Besides, in terms of how February is stacking up for huge game releases, something had to give. February still has Dying Light 2, Horizon Forbidden West and Elden Ring amongst others. Honestly, we’re quite relieved one of the big hitters has been pushed back.
