Top 25 College Football Offensive Tackles

The college football season is approaching. There is always debate over ranking the best players in the sport. Here are the top 25 college football offensive tackles heading into the 2022 season.

Note: While projection of what a player can be is taken into account, most rankings are from what has been seen on the field so far. These are not NFL Draft rankings, but rather focus on the best players in college football.

25-21

25. Silas Dzansi, Virginia Tech Hokies

Dzansi has played multiple positions along the offensive line during his Virginia Tech career. In 2021, most of his starts came at tackle and he is projected to play left tackle for the Hokies in 2021. He’ll be tasked with protecting the backside of new quarterback Grant Wells, who transferred in from Marshall.

24. Wyatt Milum, West Virginia Mountaineers

Milum was just a freshman in 2021, but he impressed enough to make Freshman All-American teams. He started at right tackle and will be tasked with protecting JT Daniels in 2022, as the Mountaineers try to go bowling again.

23. Javon Foster, Missouri Tigers

Missouri has a good right tackle in Foster, who specifically has shown proficiency in run blocking. Although he is a solid player, Missouri is not projected to make a bowl game, so he may not get as much recognition throughout the season.

22. Jaelyn Duncan, Maryland Terrapins

A two-time Big Ten Honorable Mention, Duncan is an experienced left tackle for Maryland. The Terrapins have plenty of talent on offense and Duncan can help the skill position players put points on the scoreboard.

21. Matthew Bergeron, Syracuse Orange

For the Orange, Begeron has started in three straight seasons. After being an Honorable Mention All-ACC last season, he will now hope for more as he clears holes for star running back Sean Tucker.

20-16

20. Blake Fisher, Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Fisher was a highly-touted recruit who was able to start two games for Notre Dame in 2021. He played well in the Fiesta Bowl for a freshman and big things are expected from him in his career.

19. D.J. Scaife, Miami Hurricanes

Scaife has started at guard and tackle in his career. In 2022, he is projected to start at right tackle for the Hurricanes. As a fifth-year senior, he has plenty of experience and will hope to push Miami in the ACC this season.

18. Warren McClendon, Georgia Bulldogs

McClendon started all 15 games on the National Championship team last season for Georgia. He was a Freshman All-American in 2020 and was a Preseason All-SEC selection for 2022. Georgia lost a lot of talent from their National Championship team and needs players like McClendon to lead this year.

17. Carter Warren, Pittsburgh Panthers

Pittsburgh’s offense exploded last season with the playcalling and Kenny Pickett getting a lot of the credit. Warren also deserves credit as the team’s left tackle. He was a Second Team All-ACC selection in 2021. Plenty of players have left the Pittsburgh program this offseason, but the return of Warren gives them one of their best back.

16. Anton Harrison, Oklahoma Sooners

Harrison started 12 games at left tackle for Oklahoma last season after getting a decent amount of playing time in 2020. While other players have left the program, getting Harrison back at left tackle is great for Oklahoma’s Big 12 chances.

15-11

15. Joe Alt, Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Alt was a good freshman left tackle for Notre Dame and was named to some Freshman All-American teams. After getting experience in year one, he will be able to clear some holes for new playmakers in Notre Dame’s offense in 2022.

14. Broderick Jones, Georgia Bulldogs

While he played multiple positions for Georgia last season, he finished the regular season at left tackle and projects to start there in 2022. He was an All-SEC Freshman and is set to be one of the best players on Georgia’s offense.

13. Cooper Beebe, Kansas State Wildcats

Beebe was a First-Team All-Big 12 selection last season for Kansas State. The left tackle is a big part of Kansas State’s plans as they have several playmakers on the offense who are capable of getting big results.

12. Wanya Morris, Oklahoma Sooners

After starting his career at Tennessee, Morris transferred to Oklahoma. He built up a solid body of work at Tennessee then started seven games for Oklahoma. There are a lot of high expectations for Morris in 2022.

11. Braeden Daniels, Utah Utes

He started his career getting playing time at guard, but has since played well at tackle. In 11 games at right tackle last season, he was able to make the All-Pac-12 Second Team and help the Utes win the Rose Bowl. The Utes are one of the favorites to win the Pac-12 and Daniels will help them win the battle in the trenches.

10-6

10. Jordan McFadden, Clemson Tigers

Over the last two seasons, McFadden has started for the Tigers. While the Clemson offense struggled overall in 2021, McFadden played well and earned Second Team All-ACC honors. Offensive improvements won’t come through McFadden, but his presence should allow some of the other players to develop.

9. Dawand Jones, Ohio State Buckeyes

Jones is one of the biggest tackles in college football at 6-foot-8 and 350 pounds. He has started at right tackle for the Buckeyes and uses his size to his advantage. The Buckeyes are set for big things in 2022 and having Jones’s experience at right tackle helps after earning All-Big Ten honors last season.

8. Nick Broeker, Ole Miss Rebels

This season, Broeker gets to be a fourth-year starter at left tackle in the SEC, which is not something that is accomplished very often. He has performed well and will be a reliable part of the Rebels’ offense, which will have a lot of moving parts coming into the 2022 season.

7. Jaxson Kirkland, Washington Huskies

Kirkland started his career at right guard before kicking out to left tackle. He has done well at both positions and has been on the All-Pac-12 First Team the last two seasons as a tackle. Washington likely won’t be one of the best teams in the country for the 2022 season, but they will have one of the best left tackles in the country.

6. Blake Freeland, BYU Cougars

In his time at BYU, Freeland has played both right and left tackle. In 2021, he started all 13 games for the Cougars and has cemented himself as a solid NFL Draft prospects with decent athleticism. BYU has a tough schedule in 2022 so Freeland will be tested.

5-1

5. Zion Nelson, Miami Hurricanes

Nelson’s career started off poorly, as he was thrown into the fire as a freshman. He has vastly improved since that point and was an All-ACC honorable mention last season. As a former highly-touted recruit, he has all the tools to be successful and can help Miami improve in 2022.

4. Ryan Hayes, Michigan Wolverines

Hayes has started at left tackle during the last two seasons for Michigan. He has been great at run blocking and helped Michigan reach the College Football Playoff in 2021. This season he returns and the Wolverines will hope to have a similar identity.

3. Connor Galvin, Baylor Bears

With 37 career starts, Galvin is one of the more experienced left tackles in college football. He made plenty of All-American teams for the 2021 season and was a key component on the Bears when they won 12 games. Some of the players have changed, but Galvin is looking to help the Bears win the Big 12 for the second straight season.

2. Paris Johnson Jr., Ohio State Buckeyes

Johnson has played well at right guard for the Buckeyes, but is moving to his more natural position of left tackle this season. He had some awkward moments at guard, as he was playing out of position, but the physical gifts he has were all very apparent. In 2022, Ohio State has several great players and Johnson Jr. is right up there with the best of them.

1. Peter Skoronski, Northwestern Wildcats

Skoronski stepped in for Rashawn Slater when he sat out the 2020 season. He has started for two straight seasons at left tackle after being recruited as an interior lineman. His play has been great, as he has made Big Ten Second Team in 2020 and the Big Ten First Team in 2021. While Northwestern wasn’t the greatest in 2021, Skoronski has gone up against some of the best players in the country during his career.
