Top NBA Betting Games of the Week

Each of the NBA’s teams has either played two or three games by this point, and we’ve already seen a few surprising developments. Giannis Antetokounmpo may have shown a new element in his game in the Milwaukee Bucks’ opener against the Brooklyn Nets, raining down three-ball after three-ball, and if he’s really become an outside shooter, the rest of the league is in trouble. The Los Angeles Lakers stumbled out of the gate but finally won their first game in three tries as Carmelo Anthony passed Moses Malone on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.

Let’s take a look at a couple of your best NBA betting picks for the first part of the week.

Monday, October 25

Portland Trail Blazers at L.A. Clippers (10:30 pm ET, NBA TV)

Portland started the 2021-22 season out with a disappointing home loss to the Sacramento Kings, but then they bounced back to beat the defending Western Conference champion Phoenix Suns, 134-105, on Saturday. Chauncey Billups won his first game as a head coach behind 28 points from C.J. McCollum. Damian Lillard added 19 points and eight assists. However, the most impressive part of the game was that Phoenix defense. Devin Booker put up 21 for the Suns, but the Trail Blazers put clamps on everyone else, leading by as many as 37 points at one point.

Next up is a trip to Staples Center to take on the Clippers, who are still looking for the first win. They lost their opener in Golden State and then fell in their home opener against Memphis on Saturday night. Paul George had 41 points on the night, and he had a pair of baskets in the last 1:14 of regulation to bring the Clippers within two, but the Grizzlies kept finding answers. He missed his last two shots, though, and Memphis won. Reggie Jackson chipped in 17 for the Clippers; the key part of the game was the start of the third quarter, as Memphis went on a 30-11 run. Until the Clippers fix those defensive issues, they will struggle — particularly against some of the high-octane offense in the West.

Philadelphia 76ers at New York Knicks (7:30 pm ET, TNT)

The Philadelphia 76ers won big in New Orleans to start the season before coming home to lose their home opener to the Brooklyn Nets. Then they went back on the road and took down Oklahoma City, 115-103, on Sunday night. The 76ers have been in the news because of the ongoing saga of Ben Simmons’ mental health, but the story on Sunday was Seth Curry, who had 23 points in the first quarter, on the way to a 28-point night. Joel Embiid chipped in 22 points and nine boards. The Thunder fought back in the third, but then Philadelphia went on an 11-0 run near the fourth quarter to pull away again.

The Knicks are off to a 2-1 start after winning their home opener over Boston in a 138-134 barnburner. Then they went to Orlando to get their second win but lost to the Magic on the back end of a home-and-home. The Knicks made 24 three-pointers in their win in Orlando but then cooled off, particularly in the fourth quarter, on Sunday as Orlando outscored the Knicks by 12 to win by six, behind 22 fourth-quarter points from Terrence Ross. Julius Randle said after the game that the Magic just worked harder than the Knicks down the stretch, an early-season lesson that should motivate the up-and-coming Knicks. But can they hang with Philadelphia?
