TSM Huni Interview: “Even Though We Beat TL, I Can’t Say We’re A Strong Team”

Coming off the Evil Geniuses Loss on Saturday the 2nd, Michael Termini sat down with Huni to discuss the game and the issues that are plaguing TSM. TSM, as of Week 3, is tied for 8th place with Dignitas. Here’s the latest TSM Huni Interview.

Note: This interview was before the Dignitas game.

Question: The final score of the Evil Geniuses game was 12-0. TSM got no kills. What went wrong in that game?

Huni: I think, clearly, EG was the better team on the day. We didn’t play well at all, not like in practice, and I think pretty much that’s it. I think we have also not got optimal practice as much as we can, cause I think the environment can be better and in practice, a lot of things went wrong. Yeah, it was an easy game. They just played better than us.

Question: You mentioned practice there. The LCS has a week off coming up, are you going to be using that time to get in more scrims or sorta a mental reset.

Huni: I’m not 100% sure yet. The coaching staff hasn’t told us what we’re going to do. We are just focusing on today’s and tomorrow’s matches.

Question: You’re a player throughout your entire history who has faced adversity that you had to overcome. I think of Clutch Gaming, the EG/Dignitas years and even TSM last year. So now that you are in this scenario where TSM got 9th in the Spring Split and you’re here, the Summer Split isn’t going too well either. What is it that TSM needs to do and what do you need to do to recover for yourself?

Huni: There is a still a pretty good/high chance we will make the playoffs. Whatever happens during the regular season kinda matters less. I experienced that with Clutch Gaming. Not doing well in Spring and then making it to Worlds. Spring Split doesn’t really matter relating to the team going to Worlds.

I mean, for me, I think we need to focus more on the Summer Split and how we can be playing better. Probably a lot. I think that it’s similar to Clutch Gaming. Which is exactly like, 9th place, and it was tough. You know, it was really rough. It was like… we… I’m pretty sure that was the year I played the most games in NA, for my entire career. I had to play every single game from the Playoffs to the Gauntlet. Every single game.

It’s not gonna be easy. It’s gonna be really stressful, but I think you just got to work through it.

Question: We need to talk about tomorrow. Dignitas also isn’t performing well thus far. Do you guys think this is a team you all will get a win again and end the week on a good note?

Huni: Honestly, if we don’t win against Dignitas… like you said, they are performing bad… it’s a serious problem. Not gonna lie, we have to win tomorrow. We just… We have to prove that at least we can actually make the playoffs pretty easily. I think that it’s time, if we lose tomorrow there’s a pretty slim chance that we’re going to get the Worlds results we want.

Question: Is it frustrating to you to see the good games, you beat TL last weekend and played really well. Even the 100T game, the early game was fine. So is it frustrating to see these really good performances and then come out today and have a middling performance?

Huni: Yeah it absolutely does. I think it’s what you said, consistency is the biggest weakness that we are having in the Summer Split right now. Probably that’s the first thing that we have to figure out. As you said, we beat TL and we still lost versus GG (Golden Guardians) which is, I don’t know, it doesn’t make sense right?

I think that we should find out consistency and try to beat everyone as much as we can.

Question: I know it’s probably been asked a million times, but since Mia and Maple are on TSM now, what do you appreciate that they bring to the team as a Top Laner?

Huni: Maple is really experienced and brings a great opportunity to be better as a person. He brings a lot of really positive vibes to the environment I think. He has been playing for a while, and I really like his personality. He’s super chill and easy to work with.

Mia is also experienced too. The vibe is there. And playing throughout, I think I see… even though we beat TL, I can’t say we’re a strong team. Cause, ya know, consistency, there is too big of a gap. So we just have to… get used to it more I guess since we just started.

End of Interview

Special thanks to Huni for sitting down with The Game Haus after a harsh loss. It’s never easy to do so and we appreciate it.
