Ubisoft ‘Looking Into’ Adding 60FPS Support for Assassin’s Creed Origins

Today is Assassin’s Creed Day, and Ubisoft took the opportunity to tell fans they’re “looking into adding 60FPS support for Assassin’s Creed Origins“. At the same time, they also thanked players for their support and promised more news on future content for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and the franchise as a whole fairly soon.

Released four years ago, Assassin’s Creed Origins took players to ancient Egypt as they witnessed the birth of the Assassin’s Brotherhood through the eyes of Bayek. Ubisoft didn’t offer any more details about the possible 60 FPS update but did tell players to stay tuned. Origins wouldn’t be the only Assassin’s Creed game to receive such an update after release; back in August, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey got 60 FPS support when playing the game through backwards compatibility on the PlayStation 5.

The latest game in the franchise, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, continues to receive post-launch updates and content for a second year. Just last week the game received free DLC in the form of crossover stories with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. In March, there will be another major expansion for Valhalla called Dawn of Ragnarok. This will feature Odin as he battles a new threat to Asgard now that the Jotunheim frost giants have teamed up with the Muspelheim demons controlled by Odin’s greatest nemesis Surtr. The expansion will not be available as a standalone game like previous DLC releases for other titles, mainly because Ubisoft wanted the content to remain connected to Valhalla.

In the future, Ubisoft will be releasing Assassin’s Creed Infinity, a collaboration between Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Quebec. Not much is known about the game so far, although it is rumored to be an evolving online platform with multiple historical settings. We do know the platform will not be free-to-play and is currently in early development. How that development is progressing is currently a bit of a mystery following reports that a “great exodus” at Ubisoft has seen many developers leave the company and projects become stalled or slowed down. We’ll see what the new year brings along in terms of news.
