Font vs Vera Odds, Prediction & Best Bet

Rob Font is looking to return to the win column as he headlines his third straight fight while Marlon Vera gets his first UFC main event and looks to continue the win streak going and enter the top-five at bantamweight.

Font vs Vera Recent Fights

Vera
Jose Aldo, loss by decision Fight 1 Frankie Edgar, win by KO
Cody Garbrandt, win by decision Fight 2 Davey Grant, win by decision
Marlon Moraes, win by TKO Fight 3 Jose Aldo, loss by decision
Ricky Simon, win by decision Fight 4 Sean O’Malley win by TKO

This should be a very fun scrap as Font is one of the best boxers in the bantamweight division while Vera is an action-packed fighter who gets right into his opponent’s face and throws down. Another intrigue is due to the fact we haven’t seen Vera go five rounds in the UFC, which is a big question mark.

Font vs Vera Stats

Vera

71.5″ Reach 70.5″

This is a crucial fight for Font who is now 34 and if he loses this, his chances of fighting for UFC gold are likely gone. In his last fight, he outstruck Aldo, and he was controlling the fight. However, the problem was Aldo dropped him a couple of times, so his chin is a worry with someone like Vera who has a ton of power in his hands and feet.

I expect the first round or two to be a feeling-out process of sorts as they will try and find their range and figure out what each of them will do. Both Font and Vera will likely want to keep this standing, but their wrestling is good enough that they could shoot for the odd takedown to score some points.

Ultimately, I expect Font’s jab to be the difference-maker as he will piece up Vera and land the better shots. His footwork is also solid that he will avoid the power shots of Vera, but ‘Chito’ is super durable that he will be there for all five rounds. However, it will be Font winning a close, competitive decision. At -143, it’s a great price to pay on Font, but you can also look for the Font by decision prop if you want plus money.

Pick: Rob Font (-143)

Arlovski vs Collier UFC Vegas 52 Pick

In the co-main event, Andrei Arlovski is stepping up on short notice to face Jake Collier, who has started to find success at heavyweight after starting his UFC career at middleweight.

Arlovski & Collier Recent Fights

Arlovski
VS
Collier
Jared Vanderaa, win by split decision Fight 1 Chase Sherman, win by submission
Carlos Felipe, win by decision Fight 2 Carlos Felipe, loss by split decision
Chase Sherman, win by decision Fight 3 Gian Villante, win by decision
Tom Aspinall, loss by submission Fight 4 Tom Aspinall, loss by KO

Arlovski and Collier have been fighting similar opponents lately, and Arlovski is the one who has looked better. Although he’s 43-years-old he has had a career resurgence of sorts as he has been more patient on the feet and just picks his opponents apart.

I don’t expect this fight to be the most entertaining one, but as the odds suggest this is a close fight, but in the end, Arlovski will be the more active striker and land the better shots to win a decision. At -139 he’s a good straight play or like the main event, if you want plus money look for Arlovski by decision prop.

Pick: Andrei Arlovski (-139)

Other UFC Vegas 53 Picks:

  • Andre Fili (-286): Fili is the much better striker and will pick Brito apart and get a decision win in a very fun fight.
  • Grant Dawson (-157): Dawson and Gordon have similar styles, but Dawson will likely be stronger and will be able to control Gordon on the ground to get a win.
  • Tristan Connelly (+110): Connelly showed well in his featherweight debut even though he lost, and this time around, the Canadian will be able to hold Elkins down to get a much-needed win.
  • Krzysztof Jotko (-155): Jotko will be able to keep this one standing and pick apart Meerschaert to get the win.
