What Remains of Edith Finch Reportedly Getting a Native PS5 Version

What Remains of Edith Finch PS5 and Xbox Series X/S native versions might be in the works. Folks over at TwistedVoxel spotted new rating board entries for the critically-acclaimed game by developer Giant Sparrow and publisher Annapurna Interactive. The single-player adventure won numerous awards following its successful release in 2017.

What Remains of Edith Finch PS5 version has yet to be announced

TwistedVoxel found the entries on Taiwan’s rating board website, with Gematsu’s Sal Romano adding that What Remains of Edith Finch has been rated for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on the Brazilian rating board’s website as well. This took many by surprise because there’s been no indication that Annapurna planned a current-gen re-release. Nevertheless, as some users have noted, What Remains of Edith Finch’s last-gen versions did suffer from performance and graphical issues and considering how good it looks on PC on higher resolutions, a 60 frames-per-second current-gen console version will be most welcome.

What Remains of Edith Finch is a short game and can be completed in a couple of hours. On the PS4, it doesn’t have a Platinum trophy but its whopping total of nine trophies (a mix of bronze, silver, and gold) can be unlocked in two hours. That said, this is a game that one needs to play for the narrative and experience so trophy hunting isn’t exactly what it’s meant for.

We’ll update our readers when Giant Sparrow and Annapurna Interactive make an official announcement. Considering the game is being rated around the globe, we expect a release fairly soon. For now, you can check out all the games headed to PS4 and PS5 in July in our guide here.

In other news, Sony has patented an interesting PS5 gameplay replay system that presents “what if” scenarios to players, and the company is hiring a classics engineer to develop new emulators.
