What We Played #548 – Dune: Spice Wars, Overwatch 2 & Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory

Another week has flown by in the world of video games with another clutch of fun games coming out, things to preview and plenty of news to write up. The past week I’ve been playing Dune: Spice Wars and it’s neat twist on the defining sci-fi setting, as well as getting to dip into Sniper Elite 5 and Karl’s latest covert operation. That, of course, is alongside my regular dose of Gran Turismo 7, and a few other bits and pieces that I can’t talk about just yet. Soon, though.

Reuben returned to us after a period of “chaos”, but that doesn’t mean he’s been playing Stranger of Paradise. No, he’s actually been having a great time with Fortnite’s Zero Build mode, has been getting his Elden Ring on and started a new playthrough of Dragon Quest VII, “because I apparently hate free time.”

The two A’s in our group – Aran and Ade – got very little gaming in this week. Aran’s been holidaying in the Cotswolds, so has been wandering the hills and visiting little villages, while Ade broke his non-gaming by playing a little bit of ScourgeBringer, “a super fun 2D action platformer with silky smooth combat.”

Nic B joined a cult in Honey I Joined a Cult and played Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, both of which he’s reviewing. To be fair, he can’t exactly go outside right now, because he’s got the Covid.

From one Nic to his soundalike namesake Nick P. He’s been finishing up Weird West, which was “enjoyable overall, although the last chapter was a bit of a let down.” He’s also started on Paradise Killer, and jumped into the Overwatch 2 beta, “which is so far… more Overwatch!”

Jim’s almost wrapped up his play of Strangers of Paradise, mainly to let him move onto other games in his backlog – “My opinion on the game hasn’t changes – neat action combat and cool RPG systems let down by bland visuals and characters.” Beside that, he’s returned to Hunt: Showdown again and found that it runs much better on consoles now, and is far more enjoyable when you turn of crossplay.

Gamoc has been making good progress through Divinity: Original Sin 2, though he feels that the second half of the game feels quite rushed and lacks the same attention to detail. Beyond that, he’s booted up his PC to play classic games that don’t need a GPU. That’s meant diving into Wolfenstein Enemy Territory, Max Payne with the True Matrix total conversion, the original Star Wars Battlefront 2, Rimworld and “a couple of other very old games that can run on a potato with a processor sellotaped to it. It was pleasantly nostalgic.

Tuff’s obviously played Destiny 2, but has also been enjoying Hades. Meanwhile, Miguel has got a bit burnt out on Elden Ring, so he’s uninstalled it and has been playing Apex Legends, ARK Survival Evolved, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands and The Battle Cats Unite. Nothing’s quite got him hooked though, so the video game hunt continues.

Last but not least, Dom has been playing yet more Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga – got to keep the kids happy! – Kaiju Wars and MLB 22.
