When Does the Nintendo Wii U eShop Close?

Nintendo fans have been preparing for the closure of the Nintendo Wii U eShop, but when is the online store officially closing?

This month, Nintendo issued an update regarding the end of purchases in the Nintendo eShop for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. According to the notice, as of Aug. 29 2022, it will no longer be possible to use a Nintendo eShop Card to add funds to an account on Nintendo eShop for Wii U or Nintendo 3DS.

However, it will still be possible to redeem download codes until 27 March 2023.

Nintendo Wii U owners have been encouraged to use up any remaining funds before Monday March 27, 2023. On this date, the ability to purchase content on the Nintendo eShop for the Wii U will cease.

As of March 27 2023, it will no longer be possible to make purchases on Nintendo eShop for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Nintendo has confirmed it will also no longer be possible to download free content, including game demos.

Players will still be able to redownload any content which they already own after the March 27 end date.

Certain games and functions will cease earlier than the eShop close date. Sales of the game Fire Emblem Fates will end one month earlier, on Feb. 28 2023. DLC for Fire Emblem Fates, including story paths accessible after the completion of Chapter 6, will still be available until March 27 2023.
