WWE 2K22 gameplay trailer gives us hope for the wrestling sequel

2K Games has released a new WWE 2K22 gameplay trailer ahead of the game’s long awaited launch.

The two minutes of footage showcases a number of current and legendary superstars lay down some devastating moves as the wrestling series readies for a big return.

Fans are eager to see some actual WWE 2K22 gameplay – this is the closest we’ve come so far. Although it gives us a good look at the much-improved visuals, we’ve yet to see a full match being played. It’s only when we have the sequel in our hands, testing the new controls, features, and game modes, that we’ll know whether 2K has delivered.

WWE 2K22 has a confirmed release date of March 11, 2022, for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. Various editions and preorder bonuses are available, including a cross-gen bundle, allowing you to upgrade between console generations.

WWE 2K22 comes following the poor reception that WWE 2K20 received which in turn left 2K skipping out on WWE 2K21. Instead, a stop gap release was made through WWE 2K Battlegrounds. When the cancellation of WWE 2K21 was announced, 2K released a statement saying:

We are applying what we’ve learned to the next WWE 2K simulation game with a renewed focus on quality and fun. As part of that commitment, we are extending the production timeline and will not be releasing a WWE 2K simulation game in 2020 (T2 fiscal year 2021). We want to ensure the development team at Visual Concepts can create a great game that will entertain grizzled WWE 2K veterans, as well as newcomers who want to climb through the ropes and step into the ring for the very first time.

2022 should also see more news on the AEW video game. Here’s what it can learn from the all-time wrestling classic, WWF: No Mercy.
