Ys 10: Nordics Has Higher Density Action, Naval Combat Makes up 20 Percent of Gameplay

Falcom confirmed the next Ys title, Ys 10: Nordics would launch next year in Japan for PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. Along with a new setting and combat system, it also introduces naval warfare. In an interview with Famitsu, Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo provided lots of information, which Hansuke21 on Twitter has translated.

It was revealed that the new combat system removes elements of the team system and attack attributes. You have only two controllable characters – Adol and the new heroine – and the title promises a “higher” density of “action-style gameplay” than past titles. As for the new heroine, who’s still unnamed, she hails from Norman, a Northern nation with strong warriors (and “aggressors”). Being the same age as Adol, their relationship is one of the plot’s “major highlights.”

The timeline for the new game is post-Ys 1 and 2, with Adol preparing for his journey to Celceta at 17 years. As for the naval combat, it’s about 20 percent of the total combat gameplay, and players will have a “special ocean map” for navigation. Naval battles are triggered when encountering enemies during sailing, and your main attack is the artillery cannon (long gun) on the hull side. The position of your ship relative to the enemy and the cannonball types must also be considered when fighting.

Ys 10: Nordics doesn’t have a release date yet in the West, but stay tuned for more details on what to expect.
