Popular gamer Byron ‘Reckful’ Bernstein dead at 31, hours after proposing on Twitter

Esports consultant and journalist Rod “Slasher” Breslau said Bernstein’s death was confirmed by his ex-girlfriend and roommate. He was 31. Byron died a couple of hours after he proposed to his girl friend on Twitter.

At 8:25 AM EST, Byron said in a tweet, “i know i’ll always be a little too crazy… and this is proof… but at least you’ll never be bored will you marry me, becca?”

Before his death, Byron struggled with mental illness and publicly discussed it on his channel. He was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and struggled with depression. Byron also posted a series of tweets. “Please just know in these situations the insane person does not feel in control of their actions,” he wrote.

Born on May 8, 1989, Byron Bernstein was better known by his online alias Reckful. He was an Israeli-American Twitch streamer and former professional Esports player. According to his Twitter profile, Byron was the highest rated player in Warcraft. He was also the creator of PlayEverland.

In June 2018, Byron began releasing a podcast called Tea Time with Byron, which features long-form interviews with notable guests in the gaming and streaming communities. Before his death, he had been working with his community to create a video game called Everland. Bernstein is best known in the gaming community for his achievements in World of Warcraft and Asheron’s Call.

According to Wikipedia, Byron was born into a Jewish family; the son of Itamar and Judith Bernstein. He has an older brother named Gary. His oldest brother, Guy, committed suicide when Byron was young. Byron has said this event had a profound effect on his life, and his subsequent struggles with depression.
