Rare Bloom 2022

Last weekend saw a host of Cardano community members and developers descend on the Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center in Colorado for the first-ever Rare Bloom gathering. The two-day event featured presentations from key members of the community including the founder of Cardano, Charles Hoskinson. Both Deniz, our CEO, and Wilson, our COO attended the event to represent Paribus and strengthen our relationships with other projects.

The concept behind Rare Bloom was for it to be, “a pioneering networking event, comprised of innovators, builders, entrepreneurs, creatives, marketers and educators. From DeFi to stake pools, Project Catalyst to AI, NFT’s to applications. Inspirational speakers, captivating panels, live music, giveaways and a whole range of interactivity to create a fun and engaging event.”

With it being more tightly focused on the Cardano ecosystem rather than cryptocurrency in general, it gave people more opportunities to meet with similar projects. Being able to discuss collaborative approaches to expanding the ecosystem is crucial to optimizing all of our future growth.

As Deniz describes, “The Rare Bloom conference was definitely a success. We have attended other events previously and we always felt like a drop in the ocean. This event was more of a close-knit gathering within the Cardano community. We were happy to be recognized and appreciated for the work we have done with Paribus.”

As we’ve previously explained our intention with Paribus is to help bring liquidity into the Cardano ecosystem through collateralizing tokens, NFTs, and other more exotic items such as LP tokens. Rare Bloom provided us with so many chances to speak directly with the people intimately involved with Cardano.

As Wilson explains, “The event was a great opportunity to connect with people who we had only interacted with virtually. Having the face to face connection can be an important step in strengthening relationships and further developing business strategies. We had the chance to meet with a variety of people who are very prominent and well known in the space, and also with people who are behind the scenes making important contributions.”

The high point for many was the keynote speech from Charles Hoskinson on Saturday morning in which he said, “Silicon Valley says ‘move fast and break things’ and if you don’t do that you won’t get a network effect. I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling the network effect. There’s a lot of great people in this room. You see it’s more than a product, it’s a philosophy. It’s a lifestyle. It’s a belief that if we’re going to change the world, we have to change the rules of the game.”

Adding, “I think a lot about the next 5 years of Cardano and I think about where we’re going. What’s so important about these community events is that they’re aggregation points for the future leaders and current leaders of the ecosystem we’ve built together.”

It’s a view shared by Deniz, “There were a number of highlights throughout the event. The chance to connect with so many important people in the space was undoubtedly the best part. The single most fundamental person in the Cardano ecosystem is Charles Hoskinson, and we were grateful for the opportunity to speak with him a bit. We’re looking forward to more collaboration in the future.”

We could tell that the organizers of Rare Bloom had designed the event from the ground up based on the principles of partnership and collaboration. It was the overriding emphasis of the gathering and one that everyone deeply appreciated, especially Charles.

In discussing the topic of future partnerships he said, “Sidechains are coming to Cardano. It’s a big one. Sidechains are our first opportunity to have a blockchain-to-blockchain partnership. It’s pretty impressive when you think about it. Basically, a sidechain comes in, joins Cardano, and Cardano provides it liquidity. It provides its core infrastructure, its security, and a community to work with. In exchange, the sidechain upgrades the functionality of Cardano.”

Adding, “Suddenly we’re no longer adversarial are we? We’re talking about who can work with us. What can we provide to the rest of the industry? Each and every one of these things requires hard work…thousands of conversations, strategies, and meeting after meeting. Meetings of the minds. For that to work well it requires us to be mature and professional…because no one’s an island, no one can do everything, no one’s always perfect…and that’s the point. If one person could do everything you don’t need decentralization.”

Being able to meet like-minded people in such a relaxed setting builds solid foundations for future collaborations. Whilst key events such as Bitcoin Miami dominate the calendar for obvious reasons, more intimate settings really help to develop the ecosystem and sense of camaraderie. We’re already looking forward to next year’s Rare Bloom and the exciting opportunities that lay ahead for us between now and then.
