Netflix confirms it will add games to existing subscription model at no added cost, will initially focus on mobile titles

Netflix has further detailed its upcoming entry into the games industry, confirming previous reports of adding gaming-related operations into the company’s current subscription model.  In its Q2 shareholders letter that was sent out earlier today, Netflix specifically noted that it is approaching games as a “new content category,” similarly to that of its previous expansion into original films, animation, and other programming.  At the moment, Netflix is planning to include games as part of its current subscription service at no extra cost to users, treating these titles as new films

EA Says Skate 4 Won’t Be At EA Play Live, But It Is Still Coming

Apex Legends Mobile’s closed beta is coming to Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia

Apex Legends Mobile will soon be launching in a closed beta to Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia, Respawn said in a tweet today. The company has asked players in these regions to pre-register for the game on the Google Play Store to be notified when it becomes available. The closed beta test is only for Android users. Netflix is reportedly taking its first steps into the games industry, hiring former Electronic Arts Inc. and Facebook executive Mike Verdu to lead the effort, according to Bloomberg.  Building on previous reports, this has been something Netflix has looked into for a while now, approaching multiple video game industry experts back in May when it was considering a “bundle” of games. FIFA 22’s next-gen free upgrade will only be available for players who buy the Ultimate Edition

A next-gen upgrade will only be available for the digital-only Ultimate Edition of EA’s newest version of FIFA, which costs $99.99 on a limited pre-order offer. Electronic Arts has updated its Dual Entitlement system rules for FIFA 22, announced yesterday and launching Oct. 1. Players who buy the Standard Edition of FIFA 22, which is significantly cheaper and costs $59.99, won’t earn a free next-gen upgrade. This is a big change compared to what EA did for FIFA 21, which offered the free next-gen upgrade to owners of all editions
