Shanghai Dragons win the 2021 Overwatch League championship

It may have taken a few years, but the Shanghai Dragons have finally soared to new heights.  In a 4-0 sweep against the Atlanta Reign, the Dragons earned the 2021 Overwatch League championship and solidified an incredibly dominant season today. After winning two tournaments in a row earlier this year, the Shanghai Dragons arrived ready to claim the crown.  The first map, Ilios, was a relatively even affair, with Atlanta running their signature rush style against Shanghai’s aggressive dive. While the Reign’s DPS fought valiantly, the Dragons set the pace

Atlanta Reign qualifies for the 2021 Overwatch League Grand Finals

This year’s Overwatch League Grand Finals matchup is finally set in stone after one last day of playoff bracket competition. Over the past two days, four top teams have been sent home packing with their championship dreams dashed. On Sept. 24, two surprising teams joined them.   Last year’s champions, the San Francisco Shock, were sent home alongside the league’s May Melee winners, the Dallas Fuel. An underdog coming into the lower bracket, the Atlanta Reign rose above and will join the Shanghai Dragons in the Grand Finals.   In a do-or-die

Chengdu Hunters, Los Angeles Gladiators eliminated from Overwatch League 2021 playoffs

After a long day of battle, another two teams are headed home from the 2021 Overwatch League playoffs. Unlike on the first day of elimination matches, the teams playing on Sept. 23 avoided clean sweeps and took their opponents to the very limit. Only four teams now remain to fight it out when games resume on Sept. 24.   The night kicked off with a final display of the deep rivalry that developed between the Atlanta Reign and Los Angeles Gladiators over the course of the 2021 season. Pelican named 2021 Overwatch League Rookie of the Year

The awards are rolling in and Se-hyun “Pelican” Oh has been awarded the Overwatch League Rookie of the Year for the 2021 season. Before he joined the Atlanta Reign, Pelican played on the Contenders team O2 Blast, who had great success in the Korean Contenders circuit. He was signed to the Reign to bolster the DPS lineup, and he led the team to victory on his signature heroes Echo, Tracer, and Mei. Pelican was joined by Kim “Edison” Tae-Hoon and Kai “Kai” Collins as the other two rookies signed to the team,

Overwatch League talent on playoffs, dark horses, and powerful Dragons

Few people know the intricacies of the Overwatch League as well as the folks who are paid to analyze it every day. Ahead of the 2021 playoffs, which begin on Sept. 21 and culminate in a Grand Finals showdown on Sept. 25, we figured that no group of people was more equipped to offer postseason insights than the league’s talent team.   In lieu of a physical roundtable, Dot Esports reached out to various members of the Overwatch League talent team for some hot takes and ice-cold reality checks about the

Pressure and performance: Overwatch League’s most vital DPS players on the 2021 season

Overwatch at its highest level has overwhelmingly been run by tanks and supports for the past few years. From the omnipresent GOATS meta of 2019 to the dull double-shield brought on by Sigma’s introduction, the top tier of the game has revolved around everyone except damage dealers.  This year, something shifted. Whether due to Hero Pools or improved balance changes, the Overwatch League somehow morphed into a smarter version of its inaugural self. Compositions reverted from slow and steady to fast-paced and chaotic, inviting sneaky Sombras, quick-shooting cowboys, and snappy

Seattle Surge introduces new lineup ahead of 2022 Call of Duty League season

The Seattle Surge has its starting lineup for the 2022 Call of Duty League season, the team announced today.  Seattle dropped its entire roster—both players and coaches—in August and will now look to Accuracy, Sib, Mack, and Pred to turn the franchise’s fortunes around in the Call of Duty: Vanguard season. This Seattle lineup was first reported by Dot Esports’ CRONE on Sept. 3. Since the CDL formed in 2020, the Surge have struggled mightily with a 16-43 match record over the course of the last two seasons.  Accuracy, who’s

Atlanta Reign’s Pelican will play in Overwatch League playoff games

As one of the most clutch players on the Atlanta Reign roster, DPS Oh “Pelican” Se-hyun is obviously a critical part of the team’s Overwatch League playoff run. Though he’s grounded from air travel due to a recent surgery and can’t physically join the team in Hawaii this week, the Reign’s head coach has confirmed to Dot Esports that the 2021 MVP candidate will play in postseason games from the West Coast.  “We’re taking him on a road trip,” head coach Brad “Sephy” Rejani told Dot Esports. “He’ll most likely

Toronto Ultra bringing back entire Call of Duty League roster through 2023

The Toronto Ultra will be keeping its current Call of Duty League lineup—CleanX, Cammy, Bance, and Insight—through the 2023 season, the team announced today.  This move comes as no surprise after the Ultra finished second in the CDL regular season standings and earned a runners-up placing at the CDL Playoffs in August. Toronto joins the Altanta FaZe and Minnesota RØKKR as the only teams to keep the same lineup heading into the 2022 Call of Duty League season. Coincidentally, Atlanta, Toronto, and Minnesota are the only organizations that won at
