MTG Banned and Restricted hits Historic, leaves Alrund’s Epiphany alone for now

Today’s Banned and Restricted Magic: The Gathering announcement removed three cards from the Historic format and rebalanced five digital-only MTG Arena cards, with no bans in the Standard format.  Effective Oct. 14 in MTG Arena, Tibalt’s Trickery and Brainstorm (previously suspended) will be banned in the Historic format. Memory Lapse is also getting removed, as a suspension. No bans were issued for the Standard format, but WotC is monitoring Alrund’s Epiphany and Esika’s Chariot until after the release of Innistrad: Crimson Vow in Nov. Yuta Takahashi wins Magic World Championship XXVII

Yuta Takahashi became the new Magic: The Gathering world champion after he defeated Jean-Emmanuel Depraz in the finals of the Magic World Championship XXVII. The victory earned Takahashi $70,000, the world championship, and his likeness on a future Magic card. Depraz came in second, taking home $40,000. Fans got a taste of Constructed at the Magic World Championship XXVII as day one concluded with two rounds of Standard. After three rounds of Innistrad: Midnight Hunt Draft, the 16 players in the World Championship got a chance to get some Standard matches ahead of Saturday’s five rounds of Standard.  At the end of the day, Ondrej Strasky emerged as the sole undefeated player in the tournament. When Riot Games added Empires of the Ascended to Legends of Runeterra in March, it also updated its popular single-player Lab of Legends game mode. The update brought two new champions and a fresh mechanic in the form of rerolls to give players a chance to improve their odds and fish for better strategies. In addition to improvements to the game mode, Riot also added a difficulty slider with Hard, Heroic, and Legendary options, which can be accessed as long as players can complete the Lab on each subsequent difficulty.
