Ondřej Stráský was the first player to advance to the 2021 Magic World Championship finals today, and with an undefeated record under his belt. The second day of the competition showcased five rounds of Standard Constructed, and Stráský was the first to advance to the next stage. Any of the 16 players at MTG Worlds needed seven wins to advance to the final day. Magic World Championship XXVII day one Standard recap

Fans got a taste of Constructed at the Magic World Championship XXVII as day one concluded with two rounds of Standard. After three rounds of Innistrad: Midnight Hunt Draft, the 16 players in the World Championship got a chance to get some Standard matches ahead of Saturday’s five rounds of Standard.  At the end of the day, Ondrej Strasky emerged as the sole undefeated player in the tournament. Reigning world champion Paulo Vitor Damo da Rosa entered the 2020-21 Magic Pro League season already qualified for the Magic World Championship XXVII. By defeating Marcio Carvalho in the finals in 2020, Damo da Rosa was the first person to earn an invitation to this weekend’s tournament. A stellar MPL season—which saw Damo da Rosa finish second place with a 64.5-percent win rate, according to MTG Data—set an expectation that the hall of famer could win back-to-back World Championships, a feat accomplished only by Shahar Shenhar in 2013 and 2014.

Thundertalk Gaming became the second Chinese team to make it to the Wild Rift: Horizon Cup after winning the LPL qualifier today.
