Extra Crunch roundup: Inside DoorDash’s IPO, first-person founder stories, the latest in fintech VC and more

One of my favorite series of Monty Python sketches is built around the concept of surprise: Chapman: I didn’t expect a kind of Spanish Inquisition. [JARRING CHORD] [Three cardinals burst in] Cardinal Ximénez: NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition! I was reminded of this today when I needed to reschedule a few stories so we could cover DoorDash’s S-1 filing from multiple angles. First, Managing Editor Danny Crichton looked at how well the company’s co-founders and many investors stand to make out. Alex Wilhelm covered the IPO announcement in depth on TechCrunch before writing

New York Excelsior Launches Jersey Collection in Partnership With United Airlines

New York Excelsior and New York Subliners parent Andbox today announced the launch of a new historic jersey collection created in collaboration with its partner United Airlines. The collection was announced ahead of NYXL’s first Overwatch League playoff match this weekend, and is intended to “celebrate the team’s greatest moments during its three-year voyage in the Overwatch League.” With the shift to a full home event schedule, the Overwatch League and its teams were forced to pivot significantly by the COVID-19 pandemic, which also impacted teams and their brand partners.

Most notably: the meteoric rise of esports betting. While many operators were left scrambling to adapt to the overnight demand, a select few, such as Rivalry, were perfectly positioned to capitalize on the pandemic pivot. Much like cryptocurrencies, esports betting is proving to be anything but a fad. Forward-thinking operators

The Never-Ending Design Changes in Neversong, Coming to Xbox One July 16

In 2009 I made a web game called Coma. I was 18 years old, and had no idea what could happen after you release a game. The game blew up with over 8 million plays, and sent me on a decade long journey of creating bizarre and beautiful indie adventure games. Now, I’m almost 30, and am still baffled at the response to Coma. With the help of my development partner Serenity Forge, we’ve rebuilt the entire Coma-world from the ground up; it’s now called Neversong, and it’s coming to
