by XiaoXiaooAfter the curtain fell on another memorable StayAt HomeStory Cup, we were again left with the familiar feeling of yearning for more. There’s just something special about watching RotterdaM and Lowko trying to cast over the sound of fire alarms in HeRoMaRinE’s pizza kitchen while TaKe looks at the camera in despairing regret at his half shaved head. But this fun, irreverent style is not actually limited to HSC. A few months prior, progamers and fans alike got together to put forth a showmatch that reminded us we don’t

Liquid Rivalries: Super Smash Bros. Melee

When would you say competitive Smash Bros. was born? Was it on January 21st, 1999, when Nintendo released Super Smash Bros? Or on November 21st 2001, when Melee was released? Or on April, 2002, when Matt Deezie started the Tournament Go series? I set the date two years later - January 10th, 2004. That was the day Melee held its first national, Game Over. In my eyes, a sport doesn’t come alive just by merit of a ruleset or a tournament. To be living, a sport needs a full-fledged scene

7 Great Non-VR Games With Must-Play VR Support

Virtual Reality might be one of gaming’s most immersive ways to play but it remains a niche platform. [UploadVR regularly commissions freelance writers to review products, write stories, and contribute op-ed pieces to the site. This article is an opinion-based listicle from the perspective of the writer.]That’s mostly attributable to a high price barrier. Though efforts from Sony such as PlayStation VR and Facebook’s Oculus Quest have helped, the price still helps  explain why AAA publishers are reluctant to invest in fully-fledged original experiences. As a result, much of the

Chuck E. Cheese, Beloved Rat-Themed Children’s Casino, Has Filed For Bankruptcy

Alas, poor Charles Entertainment Cheese. Better known to his friends (as well as beleaguered parents and disaffected teens who have to go somewhere to play House of the Dead and Dance Dance Revolution now that regular arcades are so hard to come by) as Chuck E. Cheese, the animatronic, pizza-slinging rat and his crew of similarly horrifying buddies have found themselves in a bit of financial hot water thanks to the COVID-19 quarantine. After 43 years of business, the arcade-restaurant where "kids can be kids" has filed for bankruptcy according

Shack Chat: What is your favorite beat-em-up?

Some genres are too sweet and pure for this world. The beat-em-up, aka the brawler, brewed the perfect mix of colorful graphics, hard-hitting feedback, and fast gameplay for arcades in the '80s and '90s. They're not as prolific today outside of anthologies of golden oldies, but back in The Day, you couldn't walk into any quarter-gobbling den of iniquity (so named by parents) without tripping over quality titles from the likes of Capcom, Sega, and Konami. With Street of Rage 4 just over the horizon, the Shack staff broken open
