Sonic the Hedgehog co-creator Yuji Naka working on smaller project following departure from Square Enix

Yuji Naka, the Sonic the Hedgehog’s co-creator and former head of Sonic Team at Sega, has returned from a brief hiatus and is now working on a new project despite contemplating retirement earlier this year after leaving Square Enix.  Naka joined Square Enix in 2018 to lead a new project, which eventually became Balan Wonderworld. The game was met with poor reviews when it launched on March 26 and shortly thereafter, Naka resigned from his position, although he didn’t officially announce it until June 5.  At the time, Naka mentioned that

Gamescom digital expo sees large increase in viewership

Normally held in Cologne, Gamescom Opening Night Live went digital for a second year and enjoyed massive success with a 30-percent increase in viewership.  Viewership for the all-digital Gamescom opening ceremony hit 5.8 million viewers, according to a report published by Nintendo Life. Views of all Gamescom shows added up to a staggering 13 million viewers, which also comes out to a 30-percent increase from the previous year. Netflix confirms it will add games to existing subscription model at no added cost, will initially focus on mobile titles

Netflix has further detailed its upcoming entry into the games industry, confirming previous reports of adding gaming-related operations into the company’s current subscription model.  In its Q2 shareholders letter that was sent out earlier today, Netflix specifically noted that it is approaching games as a “new content category,” similarly to that of its previous expansion into original films, animation, and other programming.  At the moment, Netflix is planning to include games as part of its current subscription service at no extra cost to users, treating these titles as new films
