Microsoft Seems To Be Working On Its Own ML-Powered Upscaling Solution Like Nvidia’s DLSS

Microsoft seems to be hiring for developing its own ML-powered upscaling solution for its next-gen games. A couple of job postings for Senior Software Engineer and Principal Software Engineer on Microsoft’s official website states that the Redmond-based giant is hiring key figures for developing a competitive solution to high-resolution upscaling such as the likes of Nvidia’s DLSS, AMD’s FSR, and the Unreal Engine’s TSR. It’s still not clear whether Microsoft aims to make the technology propreitary to its consoles or not. Assuming that Xbox’s DirectStorage technology is making its way

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart – Day 1 Update Will Add 60 FPS, 60 FPS + Ray Tracing Modes

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is going to offer multiple graphics modes to players right at launch- or at least it will if you download the game’s day one update. Developer Insomniac Games recently took to Twitter to confirm that said update is not only going to add the previously confirmed Performance Mode for 60 FPS gameplay, but also a Performance RT mode that will feature 60 FPS gameplay while having ray tracing enabled, similar to what Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales did. What exactly is that going to mean though? In a separate

Metro Exodus: Enhanced Edition PC Tech Review – The Definitive Version

Over the past 10 years, 4A Games has been one of the few AAA studios consistently focused on building a top-tier visual experience on PC. By leveraging the full power of high-end PC hardware, 4A Games has created experienced that hold up, years later. Back in 2010, Metro 2033 at its highest settings barely ran on flagship graphics cards like the GeForce GTX 480. Its extensive use of DirectX 11 features like hardware tessellation gave these parts a thorough workout, and made 60 FPS gaming a distant dream for next-gen

AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution to Have “Massive Impact” on 4K Gaming for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 – Dev

AMD has provided a release date of June 22nd for FidelityFX Super Resolution, its own version of Deep Learning Super Sampling or DLSS. Unlike Nvidia’s version, however, it will offer multiple upscaling modes and even better performance. With the solution also coming to Xbox Series X/S and PS5, how will it benefit developers for those consoles? According to Dead Drop Studios’ Evan Wolbach, who developed the recently released Outbreak: Endless Nightmares, Super Resolution will have “a massive impact.” That’s because even on the current-gen consoles, hitting the 4K resolution mark

How Would a Potential Supersampling Feature Help the PS5 and Xbox Series X?

Ever since NVIDIA introduced its Turing GPU lineup, featuring both hardware accelerated ray-tracing and AI-based DLSS upscaling, AMD’s been on the back foot, hard at work building feature parity into both high-end PC hardware and the next-gen consoles. With the RDNA2 architecture, AMD’s implemented hardware accelerated ray-tracing on both consoles via its Ray Accelerator (RA) modules. This means that, in games like Metro Exodus where ray-tracing is an option, AMD hardware (at least technically) can offer feature parity. This is just one half of the equation, and the reason NVIDIA

Days Gone PC Review – All You Zombies

Days Gone ran into a bit of a problem when it released in 2019. The problem was that the game said Sony on the box, and PlayStation exclusives come with standards these days. Players expect big budgets and the production values that accompany them, accomplished storytelling, and solid, but probably not revolutionary gameplay. Most of all, they expect polish. Sony has made its bones on delivering consistently high-quality, narrative-driven single-player titles. Those titles may not be the deepest or best-playing games on the market, but they almost always play well
