The Pokemon Company is donating at least $5 million to nonprofit organizations worldwide in response to the slaying of George Floyd and the protests that followed. The donations will be given with the purpose of improving the lives of children with a focus on “diversity, equity, and inclusion.”
The donations will be made following Pokemon Go Fest 2020, the company announced in a tweet. Pokemon Go developer Niantic also pledged to donate the proceeds from Go Fest 2020, with a $5 million minimum donation.
The Pokemon Company said in a follow-up tweet that it will be sharing a list of the charities receiving the donations. The Pokemon Company previously made donations, alongside companies like EA and Ubisoft, with $100,000 to both the NAACP and Black Lives Matter.
