Torchlight 3 is a very Diablo-like game, but it trades some of the gothic horror for steampunk gears and shiny brass. That’s on full display in the latest trailer for the game, which shows off a new class: the Sharpshooter.
The Sharpshooter is a ranged class, with a variety of arms shown off, from a pistol to a wide-ranging rifle to their signature bow. Torchlight is known for making class hybrids out of the usual RPG archtypes, though, so this ranged fighter also appears to have a summoner-like ability with big effects.
The Sharpshooter joins the other three announced classes, the Dusk Mage, Forged, and Railmaster. Those are the four planned classes for when the game launches on PC later this year. The Sharpshooter is available now in the Closed Alpha test.
Torchlight 3 was previously known as Torchlight Frontiers, and was planned as a free-to-play follow-up of the previous two games. Developer Echtra Games says that feedback throughout the course of development evolved it into a more direct spiritual successor to the other Torchlight games, and as a result, the planned model changed from F2P to a premium game purchase model. This also means less of a focus on online play–though you can still play with friends and other players, you can also play solo if you’d like.
Torchlight 2 had been PC-only upon its original release, but it was ported to consoles in 2019.
