As <a rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gamespot.com\/articles\/xbox-exclusive-below-is-heading-to-ps4-with-a-new-\/1100-6473447\/\" data-ref-id=\"1100-6473447\">previously announced<\/a>, it&#8217;ll come with a new mode that will make the game more palatable for players who did not enjoy the level of challenge offered up in the original release, and Xbox One and PC players will get that mode as well in a free update.<\/p>\n<p>Explore mode will lower the game&#8217;s difficulty without eliminating it, so players should still find it challenging&#8211;just not quite as difficult as the default mode (now called Survive mode).<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the full list of changes in Explore mode, as outlined on <a rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.capybaragames.com\/2020\/02\/below-new-explore-mode-ps4-version-announced\/\" data-target=\"true\">Capy&#8217;s website<\/a>:<\/p>\n<h3>Changes to Survival<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>No Hunger or Thirst<\/li>\n<li>Can\u2019t drink puddles or bottles<\/li>\n<li>Bottles still need to be filled with water for cooking soup<\/li>\n<li>Soups restore health<\/li>\n<li>Death\u2019s door teleport to island\n<ul>\n<li>Avoids the issue of jumping down without enough lamp juice to open the door<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>World Entity changes<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Fire Pillars\n<ul>\n<li>Chance to drop embers<\/li>\n<li>Fires don\u2019t burn out until you die<\/li>\n<li>Invincible, can\u2019t be broken with bombs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>No one-hit deaths<\/li>\n<li>No iron maiden<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>EXPLORE Damage Changes<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>All damage is bleed damage, giving the player time to stop the bleeding<\/li>\n<li>EXPLORE Checkpoints\/Campfires\n<ul>\n<li>Don\u2019t clear after use<\/li>\n<li>Still only one active at a time<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Mode-specific Saves<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>New Save slot for EXPLORE<\/li>\n<li>New SURVIVE mode on main menu (original mode)\n<ul>\n<li>Existing progress saved as SURVIVE mode slot<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Below received a 6\/10 in <a rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gamespot.com\/reviews\/below-review-deep-down\/1900-6417059\/\" data-ref-id=\"1900-6417059\">GameSpot&#8217;s review<\/a>, and it was criticized for the way it will &#8220;eventually turn into a slog for all but the most committed of players.&#8221; Explore mode has the potential to mitigate some of these complaints.
