With thanks to My Nintendo News for the information, Nintendo has revealed how Nintendo Switch Sports will handle its cosmetics over the coming months, as it adds more clothing items and styles of sports equipment gradually in the coming weeks. As suspected from the two different sets of cosmetics currently available, a new set of twelve cosmetics and two set bonuses will be available every week for the foreseeable.

Nintendo shared details over on the Nintendo Switch Sports website, including information on how those of you without a Nintendo Switch Online subscription can earn items offline. Those without a subscription can choose the option to play globally, then will be moved to the ‘trial mode’ where you face off against bots. Sadly though, this only allows you to earn a maximum of two Nintendo Switch Sports cosmetics items per week. A paltry offering to players who have still dropped the full price to play a new game. It also means offline players have zero hope of ever earning set bonuses.

While we’ve been having a great time with Nintendo Switch Sports as you can tell from our full Nintendo Switch Sports review, locking cosmetics behind an online mode in a full-price game is simply not a very nice practice. The original Wii Sports became such a phenomenon because it was packed in with every single Wii, so perhaps if Nintendo wants to relive that era, Nintendo Switch Sports might have been better served as a bonus with Nintendo Switch Online, à la Tetris 99?
